Roof Damage from Fallen Tree
Unfortunately my next door neighbor's large blue spruce tree fell on our LD during a wind storm last night.  The LD sustained some dents in the roof.  See photos.  I washed the LD after the tree service removed the tree and did not see any water entering the rig.  So my initial inclination is to just leave the dents and live with them.  I am definitely open to other suggestions, however.  The tree also damaged the satellite dish and the bathroom fantastic vent cover, but I was able to get those taken care of this afternoon by a mobile RV tech.  Is there anything else I need to check?

Hello Paul. First allow me to say I am so sorry for the damage to your 2010 LD.  If this had happened to us, I would gather some home insurance information from our neighbor, our homeowners policy, and our RV insurance. Next, I would get some estimates from several RV repair places. The fact is everything is repairable. It’s my opinion that you deserve to be made whole and you shouldn’t have to live with it.

Even if I felt certain that the aluminum hasn’t been punctured, I put down some eternabond tape just to be extra careful.

In the moment, that’s the best I can come up with. And best of luck, I really hope this turns out well for you.

Evidently the PWN has been hit hard by high winds the last two days, my Portland relative's power was out today due to falling trees knocking power lines down on their street.
When LD was still open, for damage like this, they would remove the sheet metal from the rear bumper up and over the damaged area. It would be huge job to repair a small amount of damaged wood and sheet aluminum.
Since the tree did not penetrate the sheet aluminum, I would leave it alone, only taping the edge cap if the seals have been broken. Keep an eye on it.
Your neighbor's home owners insurance should pay for the damage but expect them to consider it totaled due to its age. A settlement could pay for your travels for a long time

If you wished to repair the damage, a section of the aluminum roof could be cut out to exposed the damaged wood for repairs, then covering the hole with new sheet aluminum and repainting.
Give me a call if you wish to discuss this.

Paul, so sorry about your MB! I have to wonder if another brand RV would have held up as well after a big tree like that fell on it. Was there any damage to the shower skylight?

Regarding the suggestion of getting a quote for the dent repair, I would include Vince (former LD employee) at Liesure CoachWorks in Fontana to get a remote quote using your photos:

Best of luck!

We were told both by our insurance company (State Farm) and the neighbor's insurance company that the only avenue for insurance recovery would be comprehensive coverage (after our deductible) under our policy.  If the tree had been dying (it was not) the neighbor's policy would have paid because the neighbor should have had the tree taken down in that case.
Somehow, the shower skylight was not damaged.
Good suggestion Larry about taping the edge cap seam.  I will use the clear 3M tape (previously recommended on the Forum) that I have used on a couple of end cap cracks.

In 2015 a large fir on our property fell in a windstorm destroying our carport with our PT Looser in it and directly falling on our truck and a friends VW totaling all.  Our insurance paid us the totaled value of our two vehicles and the rebuild cost for our carport.  Our friends VW was settled by his insurance.  The tree that fell was close to our property line and had root rot not evident till it was uprooted.  I asked our adjuster how we would be covered if the tree came from the neighbors property.  He told me that here in the Washington your insurance covers those acts and only if the tree was identified as a problem beforehand would the other party's insurance cover it.  Thus with my friends VW was covered by his insurer.  This was the case in 2015 with my company Pimco and his company mutual of Enumclaw.  As they say you situation may be different.  We chose to spend the carport $$$ on buying our 98~MB which we found within a year and have been Happy there after!

Well to tell the truth trees are not our friends.  They are always looking for ways to do us in.

We do try to clear cut them down but at some point they will get to us one way or another.
