Thanks Dave, sometimes a reminder about the simpler things does us all good. I remember replacing my air conditioner filters way in the past.  I took them out and tried washing them. The water stream destroyed them as the foam disintegrated!  I found a spare grate in my supplies from when I replaced them, dated in 2013!  New filter elements are on order.
    For us older rig owners, it is harder to find the simple parts:  Amazon.com: Dometic Penguin A/C 2 Pack Air Filter : Automotive   I just hope that the foam elements in this expensive replacement are still in good shape. ( and have not just been sitting in a warehouse for 12 years!)   RonB
