Andy Baird Pantry Woes (Staying Affixed to Wall in 1998 mid-bath)... June 14, 2025, 07:47:52 pm I'm honestly at a loss for what to do with my beautiful "Andy Baird" pantry that I had made in Mexico in 2017. Since then, it's become "unattached" from the mounting area/wall twice - the last being on a rough road on my way home from Mexico. I think part of the problem results that the wall that it is affixed to is not very strong and there are no heavy studs to adhere it to. Another problem is probably due to the type of wood making it somewhat heavier than other pantries. However it is beautiful and functional (except when driving down the road and it separates from the wall space. The attachment wall is not very heavy and solid, and to my knowledge has no heavier stud type braces to attach it to, as on the other side is a small space and then the shower wall. It's separated "cleanly" from the wall (twice) with the long screws that were used. The first time it came "unattached" was on my way to Mexico, but some nice Canadian guys parked next to me used longer screws and remounted it where it remained good for 3 plus years. Now my RV repair person wants two hours labor to reattach it (I'll let you read the terminology) and I'm wondering if it's best just to let a handyman do the job. The pantry is intact as well as the mounting wall, so maybe I'll just store it in my garage for now. Here's the quote:Rebuild pantry that has been repaired before. There is no bracing in wall so we will loosen from the wall, add adhesive to framework and reassemble. $180.00($90.00 ea.) x 2The pantry only cost $200 USD to build so I'm wondering if the quote is excessive.

One can get a bunch of weight in the door holders combined, enough to make the door sag. Could this be about the same thing only a larger scale? If your pantry already doesn't do so, modify it so it also sits on the floor for support then attach it to the wall. As you know, there isn't much support in that wall.Jon 1 Likes

Reply #3 – June 15, 2025, 09:00:20 am You might want to consider using hollow door screw anchors in the same location your mounting screws pulled out. Just understand that cannot be undone once the contact is made. Reply #5 – June 15, 2025, 11:13:08 am I second Jon's and Mike's advice: Use hollow wall anchor (short ones), and most important, add something under the pantry to support it.Could be as simple as a couple pieces of 1x4 wood stood on end.

As for the height of the pantry (please see photos) there's not much clearance to put something underneath.

Yours is taller than mine. Well, if there's any space at all between it and the floor, I'd say jam something under there. But it looks as if in your case, the solution is going to be hollow wall anchors, and lots of them. Just make sure you get short ones, because there isn't that much space between this wall and the shower wall.
