Fiamma awning fabric change May 19, 2025, 08:30:21 pm Our Fiamma's awning fabric is coming apart and in desperate need of replacement. Has anyone done it themselves? Is it as simple as Fiamma's How-to video shows? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1a0UXMffckLarry

Re: Fiamma awning fabric change Reply #3 – May 20, 2025, 11:34:27 am I bought direct from Fiamma. I sent them pics of the model/serial/product numbers and they told me what they had. parts@fiammausa.comI spent some time looking at aftermarket replacements but never could find anything I was comfortable with. That was a few years ago so maybe things have changed.Awning Fabric ReplacementI don't recall exactly how long it took from ordering to my doorstep. IIRC, it was at least a week or so and then I left the previously folded (for shipping) awning spread out for a while inside my house before install.I'm still pleased with the replacement. I probably should have done it sooner. Rich
Re: Fiamma awning fabric change Reply #4 – May 20, 2025, 02:24:47 pm Calling around this morning to the few vendors that stock Fiamma parts, the quickest way to order the fabric is from Fiamma. The prices appear to be the same. Ordered today, the new fabric will be here in a week.I called a couple of awning fabric places that advertise new fabric for RV awnings; no one else makes or sells fabric for Fiamma awnings, claiming that they are 'unique'. Not sure why a piece of fabric with sewn-in rods at each end makes Fiamma awnings unusual. They look to use the same method that other awning manufacturers use. Guess not.Larry 2 Likes
Re: Fiamma awning fabric change Reply #5 – May 20, 2025, 10:36:37 pm Larry, our ratcheting gear which connects to the awning drum which the awning rolls up on failed and the awning was thrust out by the spring arms. This happened at ABF 2021 but fortunately we were parked in the LDOF corner with more then 20 LDs. Thanks to Ron B, Deb, Joel and others who helped me get it back up and rolled up and closed back into it's case which we tied closed with straps. Later when we got the part from fiamma we had to open it up and roll up it up tight and reinstalled, we did this at the Valley of fire campground which had a large table which we could roll it up tight. I thought I reported here on LDO about the process we went through but I can't find it. I remember that it was good to have Karen help me with it. The process would be hard to do alone without a helper. Smart move getting the fabric now, it may be hard to find as time goes on. Maybe we should consider ordering some also our awning is from Last Century, 1998!
Re: Fiamma awning fabric change Reply #6 – May 28, 2025, 06:21:00 pm Fiamma delivered the new awning fabric quickly in five days, I finished the changing the awning's fabric today, it was a full days work to do solo but it is done.Rich’s instructions on how he did it were helpful.Awning Fabric ReplacementThe cover has a full length hinge that was frozen solid with 22 years worth of corrosion, desert dust, beach sand and whatever else has accumulated in the hinge. Two hours working on the cover’s hinge accomplished nothing. It would have been an easy job if the cover would have hinged upward. The inability to raise the cover required puling the roller out from the end and having to remove the tray.I suported the roller and the tray by using tall ladders to replace a pair or two of helping hands since no one was around to assist. I have spent most of my professional and hobbyist careers working solo so this was not unusual. It took more time to figure out how to do it than the actual work time. If you can find a helper, it will make the job easier. The new fabric is a big imrovement over the old.Larry 4 Likes
