Something is worn or broken in the window track.
Close and lock the window. Wedge folded paper, cardboard, or whatever you can find that fits into the gaps between the sliding window and the frame. You may need to wedge something under the window before closing it, depending on whether the window frame rattles up and down or side to side.
Once the rattling has stopped, leave the window closed until you return home, where it can be repaired.

Zip ties pushed into the window track, then trimmed,  seemed to stay in place well. Thanks for that solution,  Larry!
