AC Foam Gasket replacement, yay or nay?
Howdy,

The TL/DR: Should I replace a non-leaking AC foam gasket? Do I need to reglue it to the roof like mothership does or is the adhesive strips on the gasket enough?

Long form:

I’m down here in AZ catching up on all maintenance prior owners didn’t do. It is a 2002 with 58k and was garage kept! It is also my first RV. I’ve redone perimeter seals, appliance seals, vertical seals, and windows seals using 3M 5200, Eternabond, and dicor. I overkilled these seals to ensure it will not leak when I return to the rainy PNW this may. I’ve driven through a couple 1-2hr rain storms, and experienced a few rainy days in AZ and nothing has leaked! No moisture or drips anywhere.

I read that the AC foam gasket is glued to both body and AC by mothership. I read it’s a task worthy of a few cuss words. I’m just tired of doing all this work this winter and I still have to do a brake job and all the fluids. AC has not leaked during the rain, driving in a storm, nor from running it continuously each day this April- granted it’s low humidity.

I have the new foam gasket on hand but I wanted to ask you experts if it would your recommendation to leave it until an issue springs up, or if it would be a strong recommendation to change it now. Along with if it’s necessary to glue it to the body like mothership did even though other manufacturers only use the provided foam gaskets adhesive and call it a day.

Thank you guys for all the advice.

The A/C gasket is only replaced when the A/C is replaced or in the very rare circumstance when it leaks.
If it isn't leaking, leave it alone; most never leak. It is a bear to replace.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Removing the glued on AC is not trivial. Wait till it leaks and store with a slope to drain Lake Newton.

Thank you Larry. You and a few other experts have helped me extensively in all the repairs/maintenance I’ve done this winter. I found all your guys’ old comments.

When our 1999 had some leaks around the AC I did what was recommended here. I tightened the bolts a little, still dripped a bit next trip so I tightened a bit more. The third time was the charm.
So no to replacing the gasket. We have since replaced the AC.
