Generator Oil Question
Today was set aside for generator upkeep.    Cleaned and dusted all outside and inside generator area.   Changed oil - required 1.6 quarts.   (got to love em)

Question what happens if you fill the generator was a tad more then 1.6 quarts?

Make it a very small tad.  Too much oil can harm the seals and damage to the engine.

Adding oil to the generator can be tricky when pouring from the oil bottle and through a funnel.

I purchased a pump designed to prevent this scenario. Now I can add just a little at a time and not risk overfilling the generator with oil.

Works great and simple to use.

Great idea Kent, I have been thinking about changing my Gen oil soon, on my list of to do items.  I have one of those oil quart pumps, now if I could only remember where I put it?

This sounds like a good idea. One question, can you actually put the hose in a full bottle of oil without it overflowing?

Jim,

The Amazon photo shows a long tube for insertion, however the actual product has a non-flexible tube that easily goes into the new oil bottle without issue. Pics included.

Here is what the manufacturer has to say:

Overfilling may cause foaming and engine shutdown.

Q: When I’m checking my oil, does the dipstick need to be screwed in all the way?

A: In order to get the correct oil level reading, the dipstick must be screwed in completely on all models with a screw-type dipstick, except for the Onan RV QG 2800/2500 model; it sits on top of the fill tube. Make sure the vehicle is level when checking oil level.

Please see Cummins RV Generator Handbook here.

I have used those quart pumps to pump all sorts of liquids and have not had an overflow problem with new quarts being to full.
