1991 Chevy G30 LD New battery new alternator not charging
Hi all. New here and looking for help.

1991 Chevy G30 New battery new alternator not charging.

From my understanding very few things can cause this not to change with a new battery and new alternator.

1) Bad voltage regulator. (The alternator has a built in regulator for this make and model.) Could there be an additional external voltage regulator? If so where?

2) Bad link cable or fuse in link cable.
I have looked for an in-line fuse between the alternator and battery but did not find one. If one exist it might be in a concealed location. If you do know of one please let me know.

3) Bad alternator out of the box. (This is next thing I will test.)

Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Hi Brockettmang. (a name would be nice);  Do you have a diode isolator?  This box goes between the alternator and the chassis battery and effectively splits power between the house battery and the chassis battery. The house battery can be a single 12 vdc. battery or more commonly two 6 vdc. deep cycle batteries wired in series. When the engine is running do you get about 14.8 volts dc on the alternator? Does the alternator charge the house battery, but not the chassis battery?    RonB

A few more details would be useful - what voltage do you measure across the battery when engine off / on? Note that if charging is simply low, this configuration has a very poor alternator belt routing, causing slippage under load if not adjusted with a tension gauge. This overheats the alternator pulley, transferring that heat to the alternator bearing, which will eventually seize up, and fry the internal regulator.
