I called about this rig and found myself in a very shifty conversation. If anyone is interested in it, I'd say, "Buyer beware".

Craigslist is flooded with scammers.
Note: If the price seems unreasonable low you can almost bet it's a scam.
Never send a deposit to a Craigslist seller. Never meet a seller alone or at least
with out a weapon for protection.

There are several listed. Which one are you referring to? I didn't see one in Ventura itself.

Lazy daze rv

He called me back to tell me he posted pictures. He is evasive, inconsistent, making things up as he goes. Said he bought it from a family he knows. He said it sat for 8 years. He said the roof vents leaked, so he had them sealed, then he said he had them replaced. He has some paperwork from the previous and original owner, but doesn't know what was done to it because he didn't care. He doesn't know what's in the paperwork. He doesn't know how long it is. I said so, because you don't have the paperwork from the original owner, you don't know if the roof was ever sealed? He said no. Later he said the roof was sealed by Marty's RV. He said it must have been sealed because he paid for a 2k service (he actually fumbled for words and said something like "two", "one", "several hundred") so they must have sealed the roof. Maybe he and Marty are partners? Squirrely conversation. Can't get a straight answer. Red flagged it for me.

If anyone calls, would love to hear how the conversation goes. Maybe I'm mistaken in my perception of this seller.

Looks like it is 23.5' model, Ford E350 chassis, GVWR: 11,500 lb., 355 c.i.d./5.8 liter V8 or 460 c.i.d./7.6 liter V8 engine, electronic fuel injection, E4OD 4-speed auto transmission. Sure looks nice in the pictures for being 25 years old.

At least in the photos it appears to be in covered storage. That's a plus. Maybe the seller is just a poor communicator? Certainly didn't do a very good ad write-up. I tried to do a VIN check with my free VIN checker but didn't work, but I think that's more a RV thing. Doesn't seem to work on RV's, only regular vehicles.

I'd say it at least warrants a viewing if not too far from you. As NADAZE mentioned, bring protection, or at least a big, burly dude!

It looks like someone was living in it and the mileage is low for its age .How long has he owned it.

I don't know how long He's owned it, but not long. He said only the roof vents leaked. It's all too weird for me. If the conversation had been more straight forward, I'd consider it, but not after 2 squirrely conversations. I fully expect that the pictures are original when he bought it to flip and not current.

A few days ago, I put my dog in daycare, rented a car and drove to San Luis Obispo to look at an -excellent- condition class B. I thought I could use it while continuing my search for my LD. When I got there, she laughed nervously showing me that it had been hit in the rear. They tore out the only closet. The generator sounded like it was ready to explode ("oh it's missing intermittently but my son said it's just probably oil buildup") and it appeared that the fridge and heater didn't work. It had -not- been maintained and she only owned it a year. I just can't drive to see any more RV's. Pretty poor condition for an advertised "excellent" condition coach.

I hope this LD works out well for someone else.

You're on the right track in that you seem to examining RVs closely and without "stars in your eyes." Margee and I had our LD Wish-List and after a long search, started to consider compromise Class C MHs. We didn't want our RV adventures to be traveling across the country looking at LDs that wouldn't work for us. And the growing expense was a constant reminder about a sometimes fruitless search.

So we expanded our search to include the following three (3) Class C homes. Not necessarily in order, we would have considered a Born Free like this one - 2002 Born Free CLASS C 24RB, Chandler AZ - - RVtrader.com

Next on our compromise list was a Nexus (no slide Class C). And finally on our list was Winnebago/Itasca Class C like these -
2006 Winnebago Outlook 24V, Ocala FL - - RVtrader.com and 2008 Itasca IMPULSE 26A, San Jose CA - - RVtrader.com

Remember that older Itasca Class C were an upgrade to their Winnebago cousin, which is not true for later models.

At any rate, our compromise plan was to continue looking for a LD for another 6 months and if the well came up dry, then we'd switch to Plan B, which was a search for an older, lower mileage, properly maintained Born Free, Nexus, or Winnebago/Itasca. As I said, we'd rather start the Adventure rather than continue to search. At this point of our lives, time is more important than many things to include a lengthy search for something. You're right about time. My adventure must start asap. I have looked at viable alternatives to LD, Born Free being at the top of my list. I am finding though that, settling on another RV is not as easy as I'd thought. You named a few I've been looking at with potential, but others I hadn't considered. Thank you for the reference list. It's very helpful.

My goal is to find something older with low miles, at a good price and hope it lasts me a year without anything major going wrong. Icing on the cake would be if I can recover some of the money I spent on it. A lot to ask for I know, but I think it's possible.

If you look at the general link in the first post of this thread, there are quite a few interesting listings. A few are non-motorhomes, like the factory-original no-windows Airstream plumber's workshop. But there were a couple Born Free's, and about 4 LDs in the mix. (Although if one has to take a weapon to go look at them, perhaps one should shop elsewhere.) Timing may not be right for great pricing, but selection/variety seems to be pretty good.

The PC was on my short list as well. The windows are not as nice as in a LD. Some of the floor plans can be ordered without a slide, so if you are looking at used look at both. Without the slide the PC built on a E450 would have similar OCCC to a LD of the same size. They seemed well made when I looked at them but I did not know as much about RVs then - not that I know a lot now, but I know more. In general the owners seem to like them on RV.net.
My sister and her husband have a Pleasure Way class B they purchased from the original owner. It seems well built.

Have you ever thought of a travel trailer? We have one that is going up for sale this week. It's in perfect condition, will sleep 3 adults and has everything. We pulled it with our Toyota Highlander. If you are open to other ideas, a travel trailer isn't a bad option.

I plan to move around quite a bit and I'm not sure that a trailer will be as easy to travel with as a self-contained RV.

I don't know. I'm not ruling anything out at this point.

What if you and your four-legged traveling companions love the lifestyle? You may regret it later if you settle for a coach you expect you will only use for a year or so.

Yes, if you buy and discover you don't like the lifestyle and want to sell your coach in a year, you probably can't expect to get back your full investment, but how much is the experience worth? Maybe you should consider buying like you're going to do it for years, just in case. It may make the hunt a little easier too!

That's exactly my situation now. I have to buy something in short order, but I'd like to spend as little as possible since it will be a temporary solution. I am also tired of spending time and money looking at RV's that have not been properly advertised. I'm trying to stay local to ease the pain of disappointment.😕
