Broken Spring Toilet June 30, 2018, 08:17:03 pm Today the spring broke on the pedal assembly. Given that this is a 2006 wondering if it would be advisable to replace the water flush valve at the same time?Also, does the toilet have to be removed to replace the cartridge?Does anyone know which model toilet is used on the 30' IB? From the manual I assume it is either the 2011 or 511. Parts are same so doesn't matter but I am curious. I removed the cover but there was no label.Jim
Re: Broken Spring Toilet Reply #1 – June 30, 2018, 09:54:05 pm We have a 2006 30' anniversary edition and it has a Dometic Sealand Toilet Mo # 511 PLUS (the model # is on the pedestal under the cover). They make 2 different cartridges one has a white end on it and the other has a black end on it. Ours has the white end (part # for the spring cartridge - 385236096) Amazon has the part. 1 Likes
Re: Broken Spring Toilet Reply #2 – June 30, 2018, 10:18:13 pm As far as replacing the flush valve that's your call, I didn't. You don't have to pull the toilet to replace the spring cartridge. Just take the plastic cover off the flush lever and there are 2 screws that hold the flush valve and the spring cartridge. There is supposed to be a third screw behind the flush valve holding the spring cartridge in. Depends on whether it has been worked on before. 1 Likes

In all likelihood, what broke on your toilet was not the spring, but the plastic shaft. Happened to me on my 2003 a few years ago. Sealand switched over to brass later on, but just in case there are still older plastic-axle kits out there--be sure you get the metal one! 1 Likes

The ball still pivots when you rotate the pedal. Would that mean that the shaft isn't the problem?Jim

When the shaft breaks, the ball doesn't move when you step on the pedal. So you may actually have a broken spring (or maybe a broken part where the spring attaches).
