Exercising the generator
I know I have to have a load on the generator and I do this with running the AC or the heat pump. Winters here in Michigan can get quite cold and the heat pump will not run. Is plugging in a space heater enough of a load? Thanks

Heat pump won’t run or won’t heat?

If the heat pump is running, but not heating, load should still be there.

The larger the load, the better.
Does your LD have a heat pump or resistive heater? Either way, it should add load to the generator, along with a space heater.

As far as I know it is a heat pump. Most of the time I can use either the AC or switch it to heat to exercise the generator. If it is too cold outside the heat part will not work, so my question is plugging in a space heater enough of a load.

To exercise the generator,  I turn on the A/C full and also a Costco 1KW dish heater.  That seems to provide sufficient load.
YMMV
