Progressive EMS voltage reading very erratic when running generator
I have a Progressive Industries EMS-HW30C installed in my motorhome. It's worked well for 5+ years on campground AC input and when the generator was used, but now it's voltage reading is very erratic when the generator is run. The reading will vary from 115 vac to as high as 137 vac in a few seconds. The EMS intermittently connects the generator AC to the coach when the voltage is in the "OK" range, then disconnects it when the voltage jumps too high.

Putting the EMS on BYPASS provides steady power to the coach. The EMS displayed voltage is still erratic, but the high readings are lower. An AC voltage monitor plugged into a wall socket reads 115-116 vacs; the Xantrex inverter/charger reads a steady 118 vac. I put the EMS on BYPASS, then ran the A/C on low for about an hour. No problems, socket mounted voltage monitor and Xantrex read steadily the whole time, AC ran fine while cooling the coach.

Switched the EMS to ON, and the erratic voltage readings resumed.

I suspect the EMS has a problem, since two independent meters read a steady voltage when the generator is running. I couldn't find this problem in the archives, but I'm hoping someone has seen it before. If not, I'll contact Progressive.

Yes, it sounds like a problem for Progressive, since you have two independent confirmations that its indicated voltages are incorrect.
