water tank help May 10, 2025, 10:00:57 am city line for water had been used but want to use the on board water tank however I don't know if there is a switch I'm missing or what but can't figure out how to get the pump to use the water tank instead of city line inlet... I know it has to be a simple switch but I dunno i have a 1984 lazy daze around 20 ft... if anyone can explain simply how to get the water flowing id be much appreciative... everyone around me as well as then I can shower.
Re: water tank help Reply #1 – May 10, 2025, 10:24:09 am Welcome to the Forum. There should be a panel on the upper cabinet next to the stove vent that has several switches, one of them is for the water pump. It should be labeled. If you have an owner's manual, it should show the location of the switch.Do yourself a favor and permanently cap off the city water connection, they are prone to failure and leakage.Larry 1 Likes
Re: water tank help Reply #2 – May 10, 2025, 12:06:58 pm Hi Princess3Ca; I would also like to welcome you to the Forum! Like Larry I also don't use 'city' water. In the past I have run into water; taste, looks, and a question of safety when using random (sequential campgrounds) sources of water. I much prefer to use my own water tank with water usually from my home. (short trips) When my outside city inlet water check valve started leaking I just capped it off. (I do uncap it and flush it once in a while). Do you have water in your onboard tank? And does your water pump work at all? Normally the water pump switch is grouped with the water heater switch, and the switch you push to see the levels in your tanks. Fresh water, Gray water and the black water tanks. That also shows the level of your propane tank. Usually centered somewhere near a temperature gauge, above the kitchen counter. Turning on your water pump electrical switch is all that is required to draw water from your tank and pressurize the house water system. Hot and cold water to both sinks, the water heater and the shower, toilet. RonB 1 Likes
Re: water tank help Reply #3 – May 10, 2025, 12:26:44 pm ok then I guess i have a line not hooked up because I know where the switch it and the top half 9f panel works bottom half for levels does not get any lights lit up but I can hear the pump turn on but then there is still nothing coming out any faucets of course I didn't let it run very long cause I didn't want to burn out the pump... how long would you say before water comes out faucet?
Re: water tank help Reply #4 – May 11, 2025, 11:35:46 am Hi Princess3Ca; If there is water in your tank and any water getting to your pump, it shouldn't 'burn up'. It might be filling up your water heater tank if it is empty. Or there might be water coming out of the drain of your water tank if it was left open. Have you filled the water tank using a hose, into the fill port on the outside of the motorhome? Is this a new motorhome to you, and has it ever worked? When you bought it did the seller show you any of this working? I'm including a picture of my control panel, yours might be similar. A 1984 20' would be a GM chassis. and it could be a similar floorplan to the 23' Ford floorplan I have. RonB
Re: water tank help Reply #5 – May 13, 2025, 07:01:51 pm Also make sure you have filled the tank with fresh water. A friend of mine new to RV's bought a new trailer years ago and went camping at a local park courtesy of the RV Dealer... with a training person onsite to help them on their first outing... all went well using the park hookups. Then they went out to the desert to camp and pump would run but no water came out.... returned to RV dealer and almost six weeks later the "warranty work" was done. Turned out that as good as the dealer was, nobody ever mentioned you need to fill the fresh water tank! My friend, not knowing any better, just assumed the fresh water tank filled itself when it was hooked to city water. 1 Likes
Re: water tank help Reply #6 – May 19, 2025, 11:01:18 am I'm not sure this applies to you situation, but if you are hooked up to city water, even if your pump is on, it will still use city water. Be sure city water is turned off before using the pump.David G.
