Toilet refurbishing questions April 16, 2025, 11:13:42 am Hey all, so I have taken out my old Sealand toilet in my 1999 MB. Cleaned everything and putting in new seals between the base and also the floor seal.. So there is a little tube that goes through the seal between the base and the toilet. How far should that little pipe stick up above the seals? It seems like a bad design and I am thinking about finding some plugs for those overflow holes in the toilet bowl. Has anyone dealt with this any words of wisdom? I am trying to get this project wrapped up. Thanks for any help!
Re: Toilet refurbishing questions Reply #1 – April 16, 2025, 01:56:51 pm I have never seen a vent tube in the toilet flange. Can you post a photo?.A vent tube should not be needed since both holding tanks have vents to the roof, I'm interested in knowing its purpose.Googling 'RV toilet flange" shows hundreds of flange photos, none have a visible vent.Larry
Re: Toilet refurbishing questions Reply #2 – April 16, 2025, 04:33:52 pm The original poster has a photo of her toilet base on the Lazy Daze Motorhome Facebook group. I **think** the tube she is questioning is really just there for the purpose of holding the two toilet bowl seals in place. If you look for a YouTube video, the tube seems to be evident there as well. I don't think this tube serves any purpose other than holding the two seals in place. There is also a notch on the outer edge of the seals to help position the seals.Hope this helps Steve K

Not of much help if you do not use Facebook. Couldn't the Facebook crowd help?I can see how a locating pin could be useful and is probably what the OP is referring to. There is no need for the locating pin, but if it is there, use it.I occasionally look at the Facebook LD site using a friend's account. I see a lot of misinformation and wish they would come over here with their questions, where there is much more long-term experience. FB seems to be where many newbies land.Larry 4 Likes
Re: Toilet refurbishing questions Reply #4 – April 17, 2025, 08:10:34 am It looks like the hole and pipe is in the piece that sits above the flush ball.
Re: Toilet refurbishing questions Reply #5 – April 17, 2025, 11:10:44 am So the tube is for the overflow on this toilet. It seems like a por design as the toilet has a hole the tube goes into. This drama it into the black tank. I ordered some silicon plugs that I hope will seal off the holes in the upper inside back of the toilet. I decided to pull that pipe up and in h and a half to let it go into the drain hole in the bottom of the toilet. I just thought others would have dealt with this.
Re: Toilet refurbishing questions Reply #6 – April 17, 2025, 11:52:24 am That is a locating pin, I thought you were referring to the toilet's mounting flange. This is why photos helpI would tap the pin in so it sits poking out 1/2" and then assemble it. Forget about plugging the hole, it is supposed to be there, The pin keeps the seal in place during assembly.Larry
Re: Toilet refurbishing questions Reply #7 – April 17, 2025, 12:16:31 pm The tube sticks up into the hole in the bottom of the toilet and the overflow holes drain into it and into the plastic slot under the seals. I guess I am the lucky one with this configuration. I did flip the seals around as I had them in reverse order. I am going to try and plug the overflow holes that are in the toilet bowl to prevent water from going down the tube in the future. I ordered some silicon plugs that looked like they may work off of amazon. Always an adventure.
Re: Toilet refurbishing questions Reply #8 – April 17, 2025, 04:06:25 pm Thanks for the pictures; that toilet is not the original one that came with a '99. I have the higher Sealand Traveler 510. You should have the shorter (to account for the raised platform) 310 model. I suspect somewhere in the last 25 years you're toilet was changed out. There should be markings to identify your model, and online info for it. RonB 1 Likes
Re: Toilet refurbishing questions Reply #9 – April 17, 2025, 07:11:39 pm The toilet was in the motorhome when we bought it and we never did anything with it as it worked. The floor seal didn't have the closet bolts through the appropriate places and it had some sort of caulking around it too. So I scraped all that and put on the new floor seal. The tube snugs up the the bottom of the toilet in that hole you can see on the bottom toilet base and then drains into this spot on the plastic base under the new seals. I just hope it works and holds water after all of this.
Re: Toilet refurbishing questions Reply #11 – April 18, 2025, 08:51:50 am It looks to like they installed a toilet with an overflow protection. I don't think ours has those holes at the top of the bowl.
