Accessing the cable enclosure ...
I've been upgrading my solar power setup. During the upgrade, I've had to rearrange cables to reach the new Victron charge controller and inverter. There is a box/enclosure located under the dinette table (2003 RB 26.5'). A bunch of cabling runs through that enclosure but I don't see any screws or staples. Has anyone actually opened this cable run area?

I've attached a photo from my cell phone.

With the seat's cleats clearly blocking its removal, the panel wasn't designed to be removed.
I suspect it is stapled, with the staple imprints filled and painted.

Hi Larry,
I'd be happy to get in the top so I can cut the tie wraps that Lazy Daze has about every 8 inches. Then I'll remove any cables I don't use (CATV and phone) and add a large cable coming from the solar panels to the charge controller. The lithium batteries like big pipes ;-)

Well, by using a multi-tool I was able to remove the top and access the cables. A wonderful addition to my toolbox. Wish I had one bought sooner. You guessed correctly staples, some glue, and, of course, caulking.

A vibratory, multi-tool is a handy tool, I'm using mine now to patch a section of decaying wood in our front porch, using a blade made for wood and metal to trim away the rot, down to good wood. Also changing the irrigation so the wood stays dry in the future.

So, what is inside the channel you opened in your RB?

I attached two photos. The generator power is orange romex cable at the bottom. The upper cable loom is house 12 volts positive, CATV, landline telephone, sensors, and more 12 volts to sockets. I stripped out the CATV and the phone. I'll be adding two Victron UTP network cables. And probably another 120 AC from the Victron Inverter to the house bus.

There's a lot of stuff in there, can the panel be reinstalled so it isn't diffiucult to remove again?

I've given it some thought and I think it can. Since I've owned Wayfarer (its name), I keep finding panels where it would be nice if they were more accessible. For those panels, I think I'll replace the staples with small screws.

BTW, you would know of a source for the white interior paneling that LD uses? It looks pretty generic. It'd be good to have a spare sheet for these renovations.

Give LD a call, they may still have some or know a supplier. Paint can be matched o the original white, in case the right paneling cannot be found,. Finding the same wall texture could be hard.

Newly cut hatches can be secure with Velcro too.
