Switching from CH751 to Barrel Locks
I'm in Acton, CA today and heading to Morro Bay tomorrow. I just realized I'm near the shoprvlocks.com shop in Palmdale.

I would like to run by this afternoon and pick up new locks for my MB. I just tried to remove one of the current locksets to start the measurement process but am having trouble. Bits are rusted in place and I'm afraid to mess with it too much without having the new lock and pieces on hand.

I hoping to cheat. If any of you have the measurements for all the CH751 locks on a 2003 MB and would be willing to share, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm also happy to pick up new locks for anyone going to Morro Bay who would want/need them.

Thanks, Joan. It looks like there were some modifications needed in the 2 cases with some detail. I want to avoid that. Also, Larry's links, though going to the same company I'm near, are broken.

If I have to wait until another time to do this upgrade, it's not a big deal. I just wanted to take advantage of being in the area. :-)

These from amazon were the ones we used.  Just save the back tab that swings around to lock since these come with straight bars and LD's are "L" shaped.   I ordered a bunch and asked for them to be all keyed the same.
They are currently unavailable but it does give you dimensions.

I understand the desire to change from a lock with a near-universal key to something that seems a little more secure.

It's probably good to acknowledge that the outside compartments will still be very easy to access with a large screwdriver if someone really wants access to whatever is inside.  As a bonus, the large screwdriver will also destroy the compartment door. 

People who drive cars with soft tops often leave the doors unlocked.  A determined thief is going to get whatever is inside anyway, and it prevents the owner from having to replace the cut top.

I suggest you wait until you have time to remove each lock for measurement, there are several sizes.
This allows buying exact fits, 'one size fits all" doesn't ever fit right.
Ask me about this over the weekend at MB.  Steve B. too is well versed in the custom round locks.
You have a lot of people to meet this weekend.

I could tell from a cursory look that not all the locks were the same length. I also noticed that some of the cams are straight, others have a bend and still, others have bend with curved ends. That's another reason why I wanted to "cheat".

I will take you up on your offer of advice at Morro Bay.  See you soon!

That is the site for the location I'm near. I actually called to see if I could bring my measurements to them and wait for the locks. I was advised if I could wait an hour or two (do some errands), they could handle my order the same day.

I'll may try to swing through in the fall or order them through the mail.

I'd rather just replace the leveling blocks, sewer hose, cat litter, Quartzsite ballast and other low value stuff that might get burgled via a CH-751 key than have my doors destroyed thanks to fancy replacement locks.

Nothing of great value gets stowed down there. If it does, then I have too damn much stuff.
