Awning end caps July 02, 2018, 11:25:24 am Playing around on the roof of my 97 LD this morning and discovered the end caps on the awning are rotted away. Anybody know if you can still get these and where? Thanks

Things are never that easy I guess.I added a photo to OP for ID and dramatic effect.

Re: Awning end caps Reply #6 – July 02, 2018, 02:42:55 pm I've lost three now from hitting rough spots in the pavement. Think it was due to those blankety blank hard riding Bilstein shocks I paid extra for at the Mothership. Since I am in the Frugal Hall of Fame, (my wife uses a different word than frugal) I put up with them for ten years. When all but one of my beautiful tinted double pane windows lost their seals I broke down and had my local garage replace them with NAPA RV shocks. The ride and handling improved amazingly. Advice to new buyers. DON'T waste your money on the expensive upgrade to the Bilsteins. Stick with the factory shocks the LD comes with. The vast majority of our NELD group did so and are very pleased.Oh and of course, the first window to become discolored was the big rear window. 1 Likes

This is the first time I've heard this. I agree that the Bilstein "ride" can be harsh. I would not order them again.Chris
Re: Awning end caps Reply #8 – July 02, 2018, 05:13:53 pm Chris,Nothing scientific. Just MHO. With the Bilsteins it felt like every little seam repair was like running over a log. It had to have some cumulative effect over the nearly 100,000 miles I put on before the change. My only regret was that I waited so long to bite the costly bullet. As I said earlier, the ride difference with the new NAPA shocks (I'm sure Ford shocks would ride about the same) is amazing! When I put Firestone TransForce tires on to replace the Michelins the ride got even better. I was finally convinced to make the change (other than from "suggestions" by my wife) after riding in other LDs that had the factory shocks at some of our rallies. They rode so much better than my 2003 Mid Bath. A couple had nearly the mileage on them as my LD.By the way, the windows started to lose their seals early on (30,000 miles or so). I just waited too long to make the change. My BAD.
Re: Awning end caps Reply #9 – July 02, 2018, 05:39:01 pm We had three windows fog and had the OEM Ford shocks. In May of 2016, I had Koni shocks installed which did improve the ride.Jim
