I also really hate the idea of investing in the cost of something that may be outdated (& throttled to "extend battery life") before I learn much about it. The idea of yesterday's hot new thing would be perfect for me to learn on--especially with someone patient enough to do the tutorial, so congratulations on the gift of time & connection you gave your F-i-L as you brought him further into the 21st century than some of us have gone.
