Did it work well?

Clear sealants, in my experience, have short lifespans, discolor, and often completely fail.
For window sealing, a white polyurethane is a good, long-term choice.

Thanks Larry.  Todd Miller did email me to say the mothership used Loctite PL polyurethane sealant.

any experience with that?

For what it’s worth, that’s what I used on all windows 6-7 years ago.  Other than collecting some dirt, it’s holding up just fine.

I am liking the idea of using the same thing that they used at the factory unless something much better has come along.

Was it hard to apply?  What prep did you do?

“Was it hard to apply.”   It wasn’t too difficult as I remember.  I cleaned the area around the windows, used a bunch of masking tape, a caulking gun, then used a bit of water and my finger to put a finishing touch on it.   A light touch will help seat the polyurethane and give it a smooth finished appearance.  And of course, remove the masking tape right away. That’s what I remember.

Thanks Ed!

I think I will go ahead and order the Loctite and see what the application etc says. 

I see Larry's pictures on Flicker and have looked at the windows--it looks like a very narrow application is needed and certainly the tape would be a HUGE help to prevent excess application.

Masking the window frames controls the width of the bead of sealant and is a great aid in cleanup.
Polyurethane is sticky, messy stuff, and keeping it where it is wanted and nowhere else is the goal.
Make sure to wear disposable gloves. I will put on three pairs at a time and peel them off as they get contaminated.

Take your time with the masking and cleaning of the old sealant. Done right, this job will not need to be done again for many years.

PL seems to be an entire line of sealants from Loctite.  Could somebody include the actual part number so we have a reference here on the board?
