I have never seen a newer LD rented, most owners paid too much to have a bunch of unknowns use their LDs.
They have visions of the results of a week at Burning Man. 
Unless you have close friends or relatives who own an LD and are willing to loan it to you, I have no other options to offer.

Most of the time, cheaper RV are available as rentals, right now, everyone and his brother are trying to buy or rent an RV.
