Entry door foam seal has become brittle...best product to replace it
I'd like to replace the foam seal around our entry door that is installed around the inside frame of the doorway. Is there a certain size/thickness/brand that is best to replace it with? Just the ThermoKing stuff from Home Depot? I guess the best approach to remove the old brittle foam seal is with a plastic razor? Thank you in advance!

What I used is about 3/4" wide, from Home Depot, but when the door would be closed for awhile, the foam would stick to the screen door frame. Periodically dusting the surface with baby powder cures it for several months (a little messy to do).

I used this Frost King R534H product to weatherstrip around the door frame; the job was done over three years ago, and the tape is still in good shape. As far as I know, this specific weatherstripping is NOT available on the shelf from HD or Lowe's; the weatherstripping sold in-store is a different product, lighter, thinner, and a lot less durable than the R534H.  Two packages are needed; you will have several feet left over, but that's better than not having enough. (I suggest sealing up the left over weatherstripping in a ziplock bag or taping the original packaging closed.)

Peel/scrape off all the residue from the old tape and clean the surface to be weatherstripped with whatever will take off any leftover goop; I can't recall what I used, but a clean surface prep is critical to a good "stick". The tape is 3/4" wide, so it has to be fitted snugly against the outer edge of the frame; work slowly from the bottom up, peeling off the backing and pressing the tape into place in short segments. Be careful not to stretch the tape as you work, particularly around the rounded corners at the top of the door frame; if the tape isn't fitted carefully into and around the corners, it will pull away and sag.

The weather stripping does compress slightly with use, but the screen door has to be closed "with authority" a few times before the weatherstripping "settles in".

Just wanted to update that I tackled this project today. It was much easier to get the old stuff off than I thought it would be. Used a plastic razor scraper and it peeled right off. One package was almost enough to replace but you were right...needed to open the second package. Pretty great fit. Thank you again for the great advice.
