Our remodel including new pantry and tile.
First off I want to thank everyone for their help starting with when I was researching and purchasing to questions along the way.

Thanks to Andy for the pantry idea. We modified it just a little and I am so happy with the results. So much better than digging to the back of a cabinet.

In addition to the pantry we painted the walls throughout getting rid of the not so lively blue and pink slash wallpaper. And I changed all the cabinet knobs. In the back I covered the couches with fitted sheets-cheap and easy to clean.

We also painted the  wardrobe cream to match the kitchen. And I got a little creative with the drawers.

In the kitchen we painted the upper kitchen cabinets cream and added sticky tile. I tried to match the outside of our 1997 teal model.

You can also see where I added a 12 volt  marine fan that can rotate to cool the kitchen and bunk where we sleep.

I debated for quite a while on changing it from the original but it's 20 years old and I felt needed an update. I am pleased with the way it turned out and I feel it is still true to the original.

We have leased our house and leave tomorrow for 3 months of travel in our mid-bath. I hope to see some of you and b the road!

Wonderful job. It all looks so very cozy. Your creative design elements are fantastic. I especially like the splash of color on the drawers.

With all your remodelling, I wonder if you've had a chance to address other fundamentals like "fire extinguishers". If you have already done so, great. If not, then you may want to check out the previous threads on the subject. [I noticed the one extinguisher by the door and I thought...hmmm dry Chem?...just a thought since you've worked so hard].

Michelle, you might try overstock.com for the runner.

I wanted a "runner" that completely covered the carpeting between the couches in the rear of the TK; this item may not be H&G worthy, but I prefer the "utilitarian" virtues of a tough, waterproof, and washable floor covering. I drag it out, hose it down, and scrub it with Simple Green and a deck brush. Colors to match/blend with most LDs; my choice is "dirt".  ;)

Does that runner stay in place? I've tried a hallway runner and it moves on the carpet and then wrinkles.

Nikki, the runner stays in place because it's pretty heavy and also has nubby little "spikes" on its rubber back that grip the carpet. (Also, I do run the vacuum over it before I hose and scrub it, just to make sure to get up any clinging dog hair, foxtails, burrs, and assorted other detritus.)

Thanks for the heads up on the fire extinguisher.

Yes, the runner came from overstock. Having the table on it at the end helps hold it in place. We have lived in it a week stationary for practice and I am vacuuming everyday. We have two cats.


Thank you for the nomination. I love our lazy daze. I enjoy telling people the story of the company and we have already talked to Todd at the factory and they are sending us a part for the bathroom latch.

I'm with you on the utilitarian, but wonder if it's a bit 'clunky'.  Have you ever found it to be a trip hazard?  I've been trying to find something for my FL that looks nice, will protect the carpet, and stay put, nothing so far that I really like.  It looks like this would work for me, if it wouldn't be grabbing the edge of my flip flops when I'm moving around.  Thanks for any insights!

Our 2003's blue carpeting looked dirty when it was new. All the light blue carpeting of the era had the same problem.
I cut a template of the interior area covered by carpeting, made with craft paper and masking tape, and used it to cut a piece of indoor/outdoor carpeting to cover the original carpeting. It's a tight fit and does not move.
Sticky back Velcro is used to secure the transition between the carpet and sheet flooring.
Once or twice a year, on a hot day, the carpet is removed and laid out on the driveway, for a good scrubbing and hosing.
Every five years or so, the old carpet is used as a template for cutting out a new piece of indoor/outdoor carpeting.
The extra layer of carpeting helps keep the floor warmer, in the winter.

Joan, we also use a waterhog mat in our LD.  Because it is so good at trapping dirt and water, we have set ours at the top of the coach entry steps.  We use bath mats over the carpet area in the rear of our MB, that closely match the color of the carpet.  Easy to shake them out and wash when necessary.

Well, as I said, H&G it is not, and it is somewhat heavy, stiff, and can be awkward to handle, but the LL Bean outdoor mat works to cover the rear carpeted area in a TK; it would also work for a MB because the space to be covered is essentially the same a 30"x72" rectangle. I lay the mat in the space, then lift the couches to "tuck" the long edges of the mat under the couch supports. If I had a different floor plan, I would use a different floor covering, probably a cut-to-fit as in Larry's FD, or enough throw rugs to cover the non-rectangular floor space.

One thing: if one pulls out the couch(es) to make a bed(s), the couch front edge needs to be lifted enough  to clear the mat before pulling it out.

The problems that I've found with throw rugs are that they are not waterproof and they ruck up and wander around unless they're heavy enough; the "heavy enough" throw rugs often can be difficult to clean unless one uses a commercial washing machine. This mat doesn't lift or curl, and although it's heavy, it does the job of protecting the carpeting. 

I also use a smaller Waterhog mat in the entry, and a  Waterhog "dog placemat" under her food and water dishes; all are easy to clean.  IMO, the "cleanability" factor is critical for anyone with kids or dogs and/or people who don't pay attention to what they're tracking in! 

The Waterhog could be an expensive experiment, though, so I'd look very closely at the measurements and configurations of the areas to be covered before ordering.

Thanks for the careful reply, Joan.  All good information.  I have some small throws in my FL now that are not H&G worthy either, but they are easy to toss in the washer and seem to stay put fairly well.  I'll take some careful measurements and see how the Waterhog would fit.
