Repairing a Bargman L300 Coach Door Lock (replace spring)
This is the lower of the two locks on the entry door on our 06. The symptom is this. Frequently when trying to lock it with the key the key doesn't want to turn and won't lock. Inside the handle hangs down when this happens and seems loose. It is giving the indication that the bolt hasn't actually gone fully into the hole. Generally when this happens I open and shut the door and it will resolve. Today I tried that a few times and it didn't seem to resolve the problem. I turned the key upside down and even though it resisted a bit it locked.

I am wondering if this is a failing spring? I have looked at some of the old posts and I believe someone has gotten similar springs and replaced them. Does it sound like that is the problem or something else? Second, how hard is it to take apart? Last, as an alternative has anyone found an exact fit replacement if I decide to go that route?

Jim, I'm not sure if it's the same lock on yours as my '02, but I had the same problem and took the whole assembly apart and did some lubricating and some tightening up and that fixed it. I wish I could be more specific, but it was a while back. I took it apart slowly and as I recall, it was pretty simple.

Chris, I am attaching photos of the lock. Did you only remove the screws and take the inside plate off to work on it leaving the outside in place?

Went ahead and tried it and wasn't that hard to take apart. Attaching photos. The upper spring has broken which is about an inch long. Not sure of the diameter. I am going to start looking for a replacement spring but invite any suggestions on where to pick one up. The closest place to me now is Ace but there are HD and Lowe's in the area.

Yuk! Mine didn't have all the grease in it and it was still functioning - it just needed a "tune up". Glad for you it was just the spring.

Taking Michelle's advice, I altered the topic title of this thread to make it easier to find in a future search. It now reads: Repairing a Bargman L300 Coach Door Lock (replace spring)

I may do this in the future to other thread topics and hope that none of you takes offense at such alterations.

For what it's worth. I stopped by an Ace hardware with the pieces of the old spring and found a compression spring in similar size and resistance. Picked up a couple of them, to have an extra, and it fixed the problem.

Good deal, Jim.  I was reading through the thread and when I got to the photos, I thought, "I sure hope he replaces both springs at the same time"  The issue is you want the compression, above and below, to be equal, facilitating smooth sliding of the mechanism.  When I reached your last post, it sounded like you had replaced both, and I breathed a sigh of relief.
