So I saw an older rig at the Lake Perris Caravan Club meeting with an electronic doorlock. It was a 'charter' RVLock. Charter Class C/A Fit Guide – RVLock (https://www.rvlock.com/pages/class-c-a-fit-guide) and it fit in the original spot; kept the present deadbolt 'as is', and only required a slight modification to the strike in the door frame. (according to the owner) It had two remotes, used keys if desired, (or if the batteries 'give out at the wrong time'.)
Has anybody else tried using this lock? The picture of the lock provided by the manufacturer shows an included modified strike plate that goes inside the door frame. RonB
Wow, that looks cool. I have keyless deadbolts on all my exterior doors and it has been years since I've had to use a key. Any pictures of it installed on their rig by chance?
Hi Joe; no, Sorry, He departed the campout a little bit early because of a 'hot date', or (something like that) before I could get a photo. I also wanted to interrogate him more on the version, and modifications to the strike plate that he made. He did say earlier that it took just a few minutes to make a slot a little wider with a Dremel tool grinder.
The manufacturer of the lock includes a new strike plate, but the issue is getting that part into the inside of the frame. So being able to just slightly modify the strike plate that is already there, makes things a lot easier.
I guess I can hold off a bit until I can get another chance to take a better look at his installation at another meeting. I believe he is on our LDOF group, but I don't know his screen name. I will try to get his permission first before I connect him with his screen name here. (John Capobianco in the Caravan Club Facebook group.)
My concern was that widening the slot where the two screws slide in might weaken the usefulness of the structure, and sort of negate the improvements that I wanted in door strength. Not for security of human 'break-in', but for vibration proofing (pot hole pounding) small collision situations, durability, etc. RonB
