Title: Steps to better handling
Post by: tedeboy on November 23, 2025, 12:36:18 pm
I made a few posts about my 2021 handling and I'm thankful for the replies.

I've settled on this for improvements.

First step will be an alignment. I've learned that factory alignments are not accurate after they install the box and put the weight on.

Second step will be a Safe T Plus steering stabilizer to improve tracking, handling in the wind, and safety in case of blowouts.

I'm working with Alignment Plus in San Marcos California.

I'll take it on a trip to Tucson and the Phoenix area this February as a test.

If I'm still not happy then it will be Koni FSD shock absorbers all the way around. And sway bars after that if needed.

These seem like logical progressive steps to me.

I'd replace the shocks also but the ride is not that bad in my opinion but if the trip to Arizona reveals too much baby carriage effect then definitely I'm going to replace them also.

Our LD's alignment was way off when we first bought it. We were told during the pickup that we should drive it for a thousand miles or so before getting the alignment checked. After our first trip, we fully loaded the rig and then had it aligned, it made a big difference in how it handled. It did not change the ride a bit.

I have never felt the need for a self-centering stabilizer, thepower steering is very powerful.
In the past, some stabilizers required cutting the Factory mounts, eliminating the ability to go back to stock-stype of stabilizer.
Both Joan Taylor and Lorna hated the Safe T Plus that Henderson installed on their LDs, the clamp on the draglink kept slipping, causing their LDs to pull to one side, I couldn't tighten the clamps enough to prevent the slipping;
Make sure the Factory mounts do not need to be cut off. Hopefully, Safe T Plus has solved this problem in the later models LDs.

Thanks Larry I'll take a look and keep an eye on what you're talking about and ask them about it.

ON EDIT

I just took a look under there and the current stock steering shock absorber is bolt mounted at both ends. Including the mount on the frame.

I recall your other post, although not all of it.
Not sure if "tire pressure" was mentioned. Sometimes the first and simplest things get over looked.
