Title: Louder Turn Signal Beeper
Post by: jor on October 14, 2025, 07:04:52 pm
I have a hard time hearing the turn signal beeper and also a difficult time seeing the blinking arrows. Couldn't make the arrows brighter but I did make the beeper louder. The relay for the beeper on my 08 Ford is right next to the fuse block. I ended up using a 3 pin pigtail to extend the wires for the relay, attaching the relay to the pigtail and installing two t-taps to the new beeper.

Here's what it sounds like and a couple of photos of the installation. It really is cleaner than the photos suggest.  :D

Here are the parts:
Pigtail: pigtail (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O3H4DP4?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title)
Beeper: beeper (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09H7RYFQ6?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1)
T-taps: I use Wirefy stuff

My wife is contantly telling to  turn the blinker off, My hearing isn't great after working around jet aircraft for 30 years.
About 20 years ago, Terry Tanner posted an article explaininghow to do this modication.

Post that, would you, Larry. Initially, all the info I found on this mod pointed to a different setup. Most referred to the Ford's Smart Junction Box (SJB) which is supposed to be located in the pax kick panel area. Not so on this 08.

Under the hood there are four relays which it turns out, control the trailer lighting. I found I could use one of those but could not eliminate the beeper from activating along with the brake pedal! I was thinking that might be a bit annoying.

Anyhow, that led me to the proper relay. There is likely a better way to get this done, so I'd like to read that article if you can find it.

Terry used to present a tech talk at each LD Caravan Club GTGs.  Many of the talks were posted on his Yahoo site Technoz (strange name). I remember reading about a similar modification as yours, maybe done the same way.
His site disappeared when Yahoo shut down its forums. He wouldn't allow his articles to be hosted here on the Forum.
Our Forum had changed to the present forum software a year or so before.

Hi Larry, At the September Caravan Club meeting in Ventura, Terry presented the Tech talk. I asked him then if he still had his 'Tech Knows' reference material. (you know how Terry abbreviated that to techsnoz) and he agreed to let me reference his past postings on our Forum, with a link, much like the Companion.  I haven't followed up on that yet.
I planned to check and replace broken links and such, before adding it.
The archived 'LifewithaLazyDazeRV' files weren't as searchable as I was hoping, some 900+ pages of files.
I did find Terry Tanner as a contributor, and comments about adding a turn signal buzzer, but not his Techsnoz files.

I have a motion sensor patio light, and I brought inside an amber LED to let me know when it came on.  So far I have been unable to find a small 'bell' annunciator; minimal draw 12v dc, not too loud or obnoxious.    A 'ding dong' type of device. I'd like a door bell attachment for an actual push button at the door also. Still looking....      RonB

Ron,
What a great addition to the forum this would be! I was thinking that one of the current AIs, for example, Anthropic's Claude could turn all those files into searchable documents. I queried Claude on this and it returned:

Then I can build you a solution that:

Extracts and processes the text from all your documents
Analyzes the content to identify topics and themes automatically
Creates a searchable index where you can:
        Search by keyword or phrase
        Browse by auto-detected topics/categories
        Filter by specific subjects
See relevant excerpts with your search terms highlighted

Approach options:

Simple HTML-based tool: Works entirely in your browser, you load the files and can search/filter (good for up to a few hundred MB)
Spreadsheet/database approach: Organize everything into a structured format you can filter and search
Advanced categorization: Use topic modeling to automatically group similar articles

Can you tell me what format your 900 pages are in, and I'll build you the most appropriate searchable system? If you can share a small sample (even just 5-10 pages), that would help me tailor the solution perfectly to your specific content.

I should have started a new thread on this.

Hi JOR, It's already here  Life with a LazyDaze Archive (https://www.lazydazeowners.com/index.php?board=1.0)   157,000 posts and 28,000 topics. Part of the Forum and it's history. You will recognize many of the names. I certainly do. But Like Larry, Steve, Greg, Andy and others We've been here for quite awhile.
The files that were part of Terry Tanner's separate site are just his at the moment.  (hopefully not on some assortment of floppy discs),    RonB

I found a previous posting providing a link to the turn signal buzzer Terry's now non-existent site.
Too bad there is nothing to see.
Maybe Ron can obtain the files.

For those with a desire to wire in a turn signal or braking brake buzzer, take a look at Terry's Technoz site for DIY instructions.
Both articles are done in Terry's well-documented style.
Take a look at the other articles he has written.

Hi Jerry;  Yahoo wanted to charge us money, and force us to carry advertising back in 2019.  So everything migrated to the servers we use now. We still had to pay computer time, we do earn some money as an affiliate of Amazon, when you buy something from Amazon, through the link on our 'banner' page.
The files we left behind that were on Yahoo, were transferred to our archives, on the new server that we use now.
The files left at Yahoo, I'm sure are long gone by now.  Clicking on this link: Life with a LazyDaze Archive (https://www.lazydazeowners.com/index.php?board=1.0)  will take you to the newest page of the 968 pages of the archived files. I was able to search some items but not others. (that is probably me!)   Give it a shot. Many old member's posts, and memories from back then.  Some of the links still work!  One of Joan Taylor's link to the 'types of screws' was very interesting.  You can search for Terry Tanners posts, but his Techsnoz files were not in the Yahoo Archives, so only Terry knows where they are now.  RonB

Thanks Ron! I no longer own a LD (I gave up camping a year ago) but I'm still interested on reading others comments, it keeps me in the "camping loop". Thanks to all who still post here. ☺
