Title: Touch-up paints?
Post by: Ohiwish on August 18, 2025, 08:09:09 pm
Hi folks,
Just found out my 1938 Chev Master Sedan was painted a Lazy Daze color back in 2000.  I won the Haggarty auction and now it is mine to enjoy,  .  and maintain.  It's a beautiful car and I'd like to keep it that way.  The lower panels were painted with a gold PPG paint color, Code 937940. I have learned it was a gold used by Lazy Daze on many models.
Question is where to buy the touch-up paints?  I don't need much, but since it has so much metallic in it, it must be a very close match.  I do have the paint formula if all else fails, its just faster to do in shop color codes for dealers to mix it up.
Thanks all -  I may get to the level of Lazy Daze coaches one day, but for now my '99 Rialta is doing the job.

Jim

Since LD went out of business, there is no known source of touch-up paint.
In some regions, 2K paint in spray cans can be custom mixed, but it must be used within 24 hours after activation.
Your local PPG automotive paint dealer would be your best source of paint if needed.

Hi—I have had luck getting the required touch-up paints for my Lazy Daze (‘07 22’ TK) by giving the paint codes to a company that I have used for years.   Send your information to Exact Match Car Paint Made Easy | AutomotiveTouchup (http://www.AutomotiveTouchUp.com) and see if they can supply what you need.  They supply as little as 1 oz.and up to as much as you require.  They will package it in any delivery system you want from a touch-up brush applicator to rattle cans.  Hope this helps!

I use Maze Paints for automotive/Truck paints. There are several locations, but I use the one in Escondido, CA.

I took an outside storage door to them, and they match the paint in 12 oz spray cans.  Once you start painting, only allow 15 - 20 minutes between coats, and then another 15 - 20 minutes before the clear coat.

They have two types of clear coat, one that does not have a hardener, and one that has a hardener.  The hardener one has to be used in the same day once activated.  The one without hardener does not have that limitation. But, the one with hardener is a superior product which should last pretty much forever.  The one without hardener does not go on as well, per Maze paints.

Expensive though, as three cans of paint, and two cans of hardener clear coat was over $300.  Well worth it, though.  This includes the price to match at $70.

I did this for my blue themed 97 26.5 ft LD (island bed in the back). So far I have only done the more greenish blue used on the outside storage doors, but later I will also do the more sky blue color.

I have successfully obtained all three of the original colors from Exact Match Car Paint Made Easy | AutomotiveTouchup (http://www.AutomotiveTouchUp.com).   I sent them the original paint names and codes which I obtained from the LazyDazeOwners website and was able to get any quantity in any delivery system that I desired.  I have used AutomotiveTouchUp many times over the years for many different vehicles and have always been satisfied.

Hi Doug and Sharon; I'll have to do the same as you (I'm just down the road from Escondido).  The new paint based on the original colors would probably be a poor match for my '99, as with your '97.  Depending on how much fading has occured during the last 26 years.

They are a distributor for PPG paint, as Larry mentioned in reply #1.       RonB

Anyone planning on using a two-part spray can, with either paint of a clear coat, should be aware are the serious danger in using these paints. Even very small amounts of this type of paint inhaled can do major damage to the lungs and can even cause death. As the paint cures in the lungs, the alveoli are sealed off, stopping the exchange for oxygen and carbon dioxide.
Breathing is good, the secret to a long life.

Do your research and wear the correct type of organic respirator filter for these types of paints.
