Title: Opinions Wanted [Feedback on 2001 30']
Post by: awsbus22 on August 01, 2025, 01:11:57 pm
Hi all,

We are looking at a 2001 30' (twin bed option) with approximately 50k miles that looks to be in great shape. While we plan to get an RV inspection done, I am hoping to hear the good/bad/ugly on this model as well as expected value of this model (if anyone can speculate and give a price range). I would like to know what I should look out for on this model - defects, potential issues, etc.

Thank you so much!

You'll get lots of great advice from the old timers here on exactly what to look for. I asked the same question when I was looking. Anyhow, the first one I looked at had a common problem which was wood rot on the back. I crawled under and it looked OK but when I poked with a screwdriver it was soft and rotten. It's the area just behind the bumper.

It's old (for a vehicle) so maintenance makes a big difference in the current condition.

Lots of plastic and/or rubber pieces are wearing out or aging out.

The 30IB model is long and heavy, and doesn't have as much extra cargo capacity as some of the smaller models on the same chassis.

The V10 engine from that era has a tendency to spit out loose spark plugs.  That will ruin your day.

Unless the previous owner was diligent about sealing the roof, front, and rear end caps, there is possibility that water has intruded and rotted some of the wood the coach is framed with.

It will cost ~$1500 for new tires if yours are 6+ years old.

The coach batteries may also need replacement (unless maintained/replaced frequently).  The solar (if equipped) is probably outdated compared to what's on the market today.

Chances are low that the awning works as intended unless the previous owner put in some replacement parts.

The fridge, if original, could be approaching the end of life.

Same for the overhead Air Conditioner.

The generator may suffer from neglect unless maintained.

There isn't another brand, except maybe airstream, that I would consider for a coach that old.   So, don't be discouraged.  But keep your eyes wide open because anything that old could have substantial problems.

Water intrusion is THE BIG ISSUE you want to be aware of.   See this: Wood Rot Repair And Restoration Fun! (https://www.lazydazeowners.com/index.php?topic=37140.0)

Good luck, I hope the one you're looking at is in great shape.

RV inspections are hit or miss.   I would never tell anyone not to get one, but be aware that they frequently miss big issues and the buyer has no recourse.    LazyDaze coaches are constructed a bit differently than most other RVs so many inspectors aren't familiar with their issues.

An owner who is mechanically inclined and enjoys projects can make a LazyDaze coach last a very long time.   Paying someone else to fix everything on a 20+ year old rig will lead to frustration and an empty wallet.

If the seller acknowledges and talks openly about all of the issues I listed above, you're off to a great start.
