Title: Anybody recognize this “mystery box”?
Post by: AlwaysWantedA55 on June 27, 2025, 04:35:15 pm
I was studying the water pump & related today, so that I could feel ready to perform a swap if necessary while on the road.  I don’t have any idea what this white box is (between the water pump & the electrical panel).  It looks like a speaker or alarm of some sort.  I’m guessing the original owner had installed it.

Any of you know what it is?

I’m guessing it’s a moisture alarm in case the water pump or related piping leaks. Looks like an isolation valve was installed as well, which is good!

It's a water alarm. Held in place by a couple of Velcro dots, so you should be able to pull it right off. It probably needs a new battery.

Looks like this one:   THE BASEMENT WATCHDOG Model BWD-HWA 110 dB Battery Operated Water Alarm -... (https://www.amazon.com/Glentronics-Inc-BWD-HWA-00895001498-Basement/dp/B000JOK11K/ref=sr_1_25?crid=2HL5A2FEXW9SU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.6zBCmGvPjXl8aVxJ3bLY7hnUYK9iLXwYyHQ5SfYWymQcN6izw1jxr1AGAt57A0YHVsP-F_V5xF2bxZF7pEUTUE5fE3fzpzslBmDN7BST7RxdSLmxyUidqJ0hhoSZkTIhdN6ZQVWpz3q7wH4dD5_es_HYMDCkyTUWjbtr_WfwCyrApzxSxuUrWn8EW-qf5W7QsiN2dxPFhcTtLDn3fN1kEYgobWAf1GZ53UGWrn2JFEbiMfL2z7B0KlReyWaRMPzYaWnd6Y9qBXGSg9iLiRZd4ESXKfupMQa7bDzb4GWeT9M.QM2FlkRgtVtzQqweSbjcHeQb22LwXOXjiVkBWBNGVF4&dib_tag=se&keywords=water+leak+detectors&qid=1751108932&sprefix=water+leak+detectors%2Caps%2C204&sr=8-25&xpid=rQnm-cLR6YZ7J)
As Andy said it probably needs a battery.
       Since it is next to a 12vdc source, you could use this one:  12V DC Wired Water Detectors Water Leak Alarm Module Leakage Flood Sensor... (https://www.amazon.com/Detectors-Module-Leakage-Sensor-Control/dp/B08WWXK2P7/ref=sr_1_7?crid=1FU419MSV83G6&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.5q5fZz3Yl9tKWzo8-sfsnaAPrruuc7KHlr_DhTQl0szR7W8JmLx7PWC0Jb1KuXjjnz_RRdKEa8JeSyQOeVXNpFXE1UMay5nKclWCAxnxCr5d3IfcYfzhMFOZg2et5aiGPwbwAuq76jUflHDxZhIvRZLlkH19Z7Tv3pbtV5q-QDIEHZPdLWl3fh7kaqC3C1bV_JUcXNYjFTh0vnHZEjuXozRKfWgNtzZxohdMP-v0pQLbfiIjHavVUwPJ3Qe9Eo0h1ogotd_iCLTot9whVbsbMzgA8U5bm9WvPzMNRXd9u8E.fwD89uW2FJMyIiWg5TJA9T-uyJG4ceVrAN0OcSUuCLg&dib_tag=se&keywords=12v%2Bdc%2Bwater%2Bdetector%2Bfor%2BRV&qid=1751109462&sprefix=12v%2Bdc%2Bwater%2Bdetector%2Bfor%2Brv%2Caps%2C180&sr=8-7&th=1)  Double the price, but no battery required.  RonB

In both of my Lazy Daze coaches I installed this style water sensor.

<Reliance Controls THP205 Reliance Sump Pump Alarm with Flood Alert, 9 V... (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000IF6URO?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title>);

I placed the sensor element on the floor by the water pump and the other on the floor under the sink and next to the  water heater. What I liked was that the electronics and battery case could be placed in a location easily accessible to annually change the battery. Also the alarm sound would not be muffled by cabinetry.

Yes, I like the separate sensor type. That's what I used in Skylark.

Andy,  I think I got the idea from your post many years ago and it made good sense! I will be using the same with my new Coach House when the time comes.
Again, Thank you!!
