Where we are staying at in San Diego has fairly low pedestal voltage, around 110V. At what point does running the air conditioner become a problem? We’d like to set the AC in the auto mode so that the cats are cool while we’re out and about but I’m a little concerned. How low is too low?
Do you have an EMS device (like a Progressive or TRC or SurgeGuard unit) that will cut shore power if it dips too low? They typically drop at 108V low and 132V high.
The problem is that 110V is a single measurement. If you're in a park that's getting more crowded, as more rigs plug in that voltage is likely to drop. And it's more likely to drop during the heat of the afternoon as more air conditioners are in use, and that's likely when you are hoping to get out and about. Without an EMS, you risk expensive damage to the roof air. With an EMS, when it drops low, there will be no air conditioning.
I would not risk the air conditioner (or the cats) with that low of a voltage.
Thanks Michelle. I am using a progressive industries EMS and so far it hasn’t cut power at the pedestal. I’ve talked to several other folks nearby and their power is low as well but they haven’t had any problems with power cutting off. For now I’m going to bump the air conditioner up so it doesn’t run so much and switch the fridge from AC to propane to minimize AC power being used. Today is the warmest day so if we get through today, I think we’ll be good. I did install a soft start on the AC unit last year so I think that is helping.
