Never flushing with less than three-quarters full black tank and frequent flushing, preferably with an in-tank flusher, will help prevent this problem.
Going for a spirited drive before flushing can help break stuff up

After ensuring our black and grey tanks are clean - that is, free of sediments, once we empty at a dump station, I'll add 1/4 tank water and 2 dishwasher pods ("spot-free rinse!"), before driving to our next destination - wash/agitate it on the road, so to speak.  Once there, I'll dump to have an empty tank and use as usual.  SO far, after many years, have never had any problems - no mounds or particles in the black tank.  Seems to be working fine.

Before dumping, like 3 or 4 days before, I'll drop in a tab thinking (probably erroneously but it makes me feel better).  At the time of dumping, we also flush with a spray hose (black tank), a couple times, to see clear water coming out.

Just on-going maintenance, that's all...

When there is no dump available locally and we plan on dumping down the road, I will add two ounces of dishwashing soap to each tank, accomplishing a similar result to dishwasher pods. Pods may be more concentrated.
Good idea.

That's exactly what I was talking about.
It looks similar to what our rig looked like after driving out of Chaco Culture National Historical Park.
