Title: Reduce Exhaust Heat
Post by: jor on January 22, 2025, 05:16:00 pm
Some time ago I added some good heat-sound insulation to the doghouse. This reduced the heat emanating from the area where the passenger left foot would rest. Anyhow, there was still too much heat so today I wrapped the tail end of the exhaust manifold and a bit of the exhaust pipe. I'm hoping this will take care of the issue. We'll see.

I think a heat shield would be a better solution but it is very tight in that area. Anyone come up with another solution?

With the carpet out, I lined the floor pan with a layer of Siless 80mil Car Sound Deadening Mat, and then a layer of Siless Hybrid 3 in 1 Car Sound Deadening Mat.      This took the place of the carpet underlayment (jute) that was installed from the factory.

It was a lot of work, more than some people would claim it's worth, but it's part of my effort to make my 2003 chassis drive a bit more like a more modern vehicle.

Major improvement in sound and heat, much to the dismay of my dog who liked to lay in the warm area above the transmission.

An alternative might be to use a foil lined jute like this: Automotive Jute Padding and Insulation - Second Skin Audio (https://www.secondskinaudio.com/jute-insulation/?srsltid=AfmBOoqs2OACJiXpws18Edm093HNZqaCRnT7zREq5WvvxaI3CyiWKGyF)
