Title: victron connect app/AM Solar
Post by: Jay Carlson on August 26, 2024, 01:06:34 am
Does anyone know if AM Solar is still in business?   I have not been able to contact them.

I have problems connecting Victron solar charge controller and battery monitor with Victron app.  Likely started with new phone a year ago May.  This problem is with stuff I bought from AM Solar and installed myself on my Bigfoot RV.   But the traffic on Bigfoot owner group slower than here, and somebody likely has Victron in their LD

I also sent a request for help to Victron.

Reports from Airstream forums are that AM Solar permanently closed in June.

AM Solar (https://www.lazydazeowners.com/index.php?topic=39632.0)

Confirmed by one of their installers that AM Solar shut down earlier this year  AM Solar shut down (https://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=48215.msg487170#msg487170)

You might look to see what software version you have and maybe even see if a firmware update is available.
I have the Victron connect app and have updated it a few times in the last year.
I suspect though that your phone might be the problem.

Questions:

What kinds of problems? Can you connect at all, or is it intermittent, or...? What are the exact symptoms?

What phone?

What OS version? (Current versions are iOS 17.6.1, macOS 14.6.1; don't know about Android or Windows)

What version of Victron Connect? As Jota noted, Victron updates their app regularly. (Current version is 6.08 for iOS and macOS; don't know about Android or Windows)

What firmware versions? (If you can't connect at all, of course you can't see the versions; but once you do connect, be sure to update your Victron devices' firmware.)

Making certain that you're up to date is the first place to start.

Have you tried using Victron Connect on other computer devices? Victron Connect is also available for tablets and desktop/laptop computers, so trying it on a different device would be a good diagnostic.

The Victron Connect software manual (https://www.victronenergy.com/media/pg/VictronConnect_Manual/en/index-en.html) is available online, by the way.

Well that news just breaks my heart. My Solar installation by AM Solar went amazingly well. While there I had them install a quick connect for my Suitcase Portable panels I purchased while there since I wasn’t sure when I would be able to get back up there.

I always enjoyed watching their informative YouTube videos. Their latest video was posted June 5, 2024. Just checked Google Maps and it states they are permanently closed.

Here are some photos of my install before and after completion. I hope they can resurrect themselves soon.

Sad to hear this.

Anyone know of a good RV solar and battery system installer in the San Diego and Los Angeles area?

I’ve made some initial inquiries into the solar installers in Quartzsite, AZ. The two I know about are Solar Bill and Discount Solar. They both shutdown during the summer but should reopen sometime in October.  I don’t have any personal experience but might be worth checking out. Quartzsite is only four hours from San Diego so a lot closer than going to Oregon anyway.

About Us – Solar bill (https://www.solarbill.com/about-us/)

About Us | Discount Solar (http://discountsolar.company/about/)

Does anyone have any personal experience with either company?

Buddy's welding and RV in Flagstaff does a very good job of installing solar systems.
Also in Flagstaff is a good solar supplier, used to be called Arizona Wind and Solar but they have changed names.

The former Arizona Wind & Sun is now NAZ Solar Electric (https://www.solar-electric.com).  I haven't had any installation work done by them, but I have bought batteries from them a number of times, and they seem like good people.

It may be a bit off-route for you, but I recommend  QUALITY SOLAR (https://www.qualityrvsolar.com/) in Rough and Ready Ca - between Grass Valley and Marysville. Dan Reshatoff was a AM Solar certified installer who moved operations up from Fremont, CA. Check out his gallery for my 2013 IB.

Another vote for ‘Solar Dan’.  He installed a whole house inverter and solar panels on our friend’s and traveling companions MB.
It is a first-class installation.
Dan is a busy man, be prepared to wait a bit for an appointment.

Durango, CO.

I swapped emails with Garret Towne (owner of AM Solar) shortly after they closed. They did several installs for me and provided equipment for a couple other self installs. Like many here, I was a fan...top notch installations and service.

Garret shared the following. I know nothing about this person/company, but coming from Garret I'd certainly trust it.

"I recommend looking up Dylan Morison with Superstition Solar. He’s a great installer located in AZ."

Dylan was a lead installer at AM Solar. You can find more about him, including contact information,  in post #71 (https://www.lazydazeowners.com/index.php?topic=29329.msg257864#msg257864) from a few weeks ago.

Indeed, Dylan had a hand in installing my panels. It is nice to know that Garret is helping AM Solar customers. Top notch installation.
