Title: Paint on roof seam sealant
Post by: airbusguy on July 26, 2024, 07:39:55 pm
Hi LDers,
I did my annual roof scrub down today on my 2016 MB
I know I have a few years left before a reseal, but noticed the white paint that LD coated the sealant with is chipping off. Thinking of hand brushing some enamel paint on the missing areas to protect the sealant from the sun to ensure longer life. Sound idea?
Cheers

A few years ago we wiped the sealant with denatured alcohol, then a primer, and finished with outdoor white enamel.  It has done an excellent job of protecting the sealant and has lasted for years.  Of course, it helps that we store our LD under a 35’ cover.  Hope this helps.

I too paint the  seams.   I have a 31 foot IB , LD  and have owned since in 2007. purchased new.  Two times a year I am up there on my hand

and knees  with a small bucket of water, rag, caulking gun  and  ELASTOMERIC ROOF COATING.  first search for any cracks  which are

filled with caulk.  I then paint all of the seams  every few years.  Parked outside in Mesa, Az HOT  sun.

Roof looks almost new 17 years later,  just my two cents worth.
