Title: Welp I did it
Post by: tedeboy on May 13, 2024, 12:56:24 am
2013 with 66K.
Regular maintenance, 1 owner, clean title.

Replaces our 2002 CRV TOAD which was getting tired at over 200K and lots of towing.

Next up Blue Ox baseplate install and taillight mod.

It drives well. AWD

Nice find, with low miles.

Check for common issues - leak at the roof antenna, VVT rattle at startup, check or replace fluids (ATF, AWD, Brake).    After that it should last for a long time.

Affordable carplay upgrade, although the instructions could use some work: Amazon.com: CAMECHO 2+64G Android 13 Car Stereo for Honda CRV 2012 2013 2014... (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BVFLSCL4)

Bumper clips - if you decide to install the baseplate yourself you might need some.
Amazon.com: Rexka 20pcs Bumper Moulding Clip for Honda 91578-T0A-003 CR-V... (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B4DCF45/)

Watch for oil consumption, which I think was worked out by 2013, but can be an issue in those engines.

Some of that vintage lose driver side heat due to a clogged heater core.   It can be flushed.

Which Aux Brake System?  idle curiosity.

Roadmaster, Demco, BrakeBuddy, etc…. need one to be safe and legal.
What are you using Joel?
We have used a Demco/SMI brake for over twenty years.

Nice toad and low miles!

We had good luck with a simple Ready Brake.

I have an older RVi Brake 2 system that has been factory rebuilt.
We've had it a long time the customer service has been great.

Thanks for the tips. Our 2002 CRV has been good for us but unfortunately it's got a main seal oil leak and at over 200,000 miles it's pretty worn out. Needs struts also and a bad rust spot at the top of the windshield.

"Our 2002 CRV has been good for us..."

And my 2008 has also given good service with relative no hick-ups! Amazing little machines... took me away from my love affair with Fords!   :D

With 70K on the odometer and another 60K towed, I  dropped 2700 into the front end of my 2011 CRV. Was not an immediate need, but timing was good. Worthwhile as most everything else is doing good, and in great shape.

I also use the RVi auxiliary braking system.  The Command Center tablet can also integrate tire pressure monitoring system and a TOAD battery charging unit.  Have been very happy with all so far.

I have a 2002 CR-V with a manual transmission at around 157,000 miles.  (It's the only car I ever bought brand new.)  I'd like to buy a "second car" to save my "tow vehicle" (would love to have a manual Subaru Forester) but can't rationalize why I should...  Towing "does" add an extra layer of anxiety for me, and I'm thinking for my summer travels (mainly staying at Elk's and Moose Lodges) I should be fine with just taking a bicycle.
