Just finished up my inverter install. I'm starting another thread as mine is different than Tim's in that mine is an inverter rather than an inverter-charger. I think I may have gone with an inverter-charger but I had already replaced my OEM converter when I changed over to lithium batteries.
I mounted the 2200 watt inverter in the same compartment as my batteries and solar charger (under frig). Fit quite nicely. Changed out my 2 gauge wires to 2/0. Installed a second transfer switch under the kitchen sink to handle the inverter and I wired the inverter as a whole house device with 10/2 Romex. Installed the remote button above the power center.
For now, I'm simply leaving the converter breaker in the off position, however, when we get back from our next trip I'm going to install a switch which will allow me to leave the converter breaker on.

Very impressive job on your upgrade!
I'm interested to hear how you intend to implement your automatic converter on/off switch. I guess it's a simple enough concept: if a/c is coming from the inverter, turn converter off, and turn it back on as soon as the a/c from the inverter quits.
My situation is a little different. Mine is a through inverter, so all a/c comes from it whether it's pulling from the battery or not. I also would like to automate my converter on/off. I guess my automatic switch will be based on whether or not shore/generator is on - if so, turn converter on, if not, turn it off.
I'm glad you find this fun, it means that your skill level far exceeds mine!

Be careful not to overly complicate this project, with too many transfer switches and relays, it makes troubleshooting much more difficult if and when future problems pop up.
Marking the wires is a great idea and can help track down issues.

Yea, that's it. It's just a switch wired to the converter and the inverter. When the inverter is turned on, the converter turns off. I did a lot of searching on how to make this happen. There are many approaches but this one seems the simplest and is inexpensive to implement. Less than a C note. My other rigs had through inverter-chargers but my only experience with them was to replace two so I'm not much help there.
