Title: Sink drain
Post by: hbn7hj on June 02, 2023, 07:18:30 pm
Just finished doing battle with a 17 year old kitchen sink drain.

Didn’t take long but I cut it out with a cutting wheel on a Dremel taking care not to heat it up too much and damage the sink.
I cut the upper lip off from above. Worked pretty well.

I do not have the wherewithall to make a three pronged tool. I do have the 2” deep socket for the nut.

The problem is the adhesive at install gets in the threads and you need some way to hold it from the top.

After the fact I did find this tool and will have it to try next time.

I have not used the tool above but I have many times used this tool Tub Drain Wrench https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-Drain-Removal-Wrench/1002633350
The one above looks a little more robust -going by the pictures.

Sometimes they are so bad though they need to be cut out (a 60+ year old one nobody could get to budge).

This one works on the standard LD drain with three ribs.
