Title: Transmission Fluid Change
Post by: jor on April 21, 2023, 01:22:09 pm
09 with 30K miles

I checked the owner's manual and it indicates, for transmissions without an external filter, the first fluid change is at 60K. Is that what you guys recommend?

Jor,

You may wish to read the owners manual addendum on towing, if you tow a vehicle. Many of the service intervals are shorter in this circumstance.

More frequent oil and filter changes are recommended if used for towing or other HD operations.
If you do it yourself, a filter and 8 qts of fluid are not that expensive. I usually do a total flush, using 22 qts of fluid.

Thanks, guys. We almost always tow. I figured that would be the case. I hate that messy job. This trans has a drain plug but of course you have to drop the cover to get to the filter. Never could figure out why manufacturers don't use external filters.

Thanks for the Guide, Larry. Just the ticket.

This is how I flush our LD's transmission.
