Didn't find much on this in past threads. Anyone replaced the entry door lock with an electronic one? Mine's an 09. I'd like to do this if possible and I think I'll replace the compartment locks with latches that don't lock. Thanks.

Jor,
RV Lock has just come out with RVLock Atlas Keyless Handle for Class A & C Motorhomes (https://www.rvlock.com/collections/class-c-a-motorhomes/products/rvlock-atlas-keyless-handle-for-class-a-c-motorhomes) . I haven't been able to find any other e-locks that come close. That might be a fit for the newer LD door handles, although RVLock's fitment guide is the best thing to answer that. On my 2021, the gap between the door handle and the jam is too short and there is no calibration nut that I can see so I don't believe it will fit mine.

No experience with electronic locks.
Why would you want non-locking exterior compartments? We carry items of value in the compartments that we would not be happy to see walk off.
Locks keep honest people honest.
The stock locks can be opened with a CH751 key, a common key used on many RVs, including LD.
Several years ago we switched to custom-ordered round locks that are a perfect fit.

I can certainly see replacing the original compartment latches with a more secure keyed version, but while it’s true that a determined thief will break in, not having any lock on the compartment doors to deter a casual “grab and run” seems very risky.
YMMV, as always.

Really, the only things I care about are my tools. That one I'll keep locked. The others? No big deal. Keying those compartments open and closed is a royal pain for me. Never had an RV set up like that. Also, in many years of RVing, I've never had anything stolen. Just eliminating another annoyance! Think I'll chance it! :D
This is our last RV and I really like it. One thing we had on one of our A's, I do miss. It had a fob that opened and locked the entry door and compartments. That was pretty sweet.
And, as Sly sang lo those many years ago, Different Strokes! ;D

Linda, I missed your reply. Thanks. I am going to look into this. Probably require some modification.

Hi Jor: this thread might provide some information on the old Bargeman lock, and the newer door locks circa 2006. RonB

Honestly, I put a higher value on the RV itself than the contents of its storage bays.
Especially since the demise of the Mothership, I have no idea where you'd obtain replacement doors and the surrounding parts. Most everything in the bays could be replaced at the nearest Walmart.
Steve
Little of what I carried in the compartments of my TK could have been replaced at the “nearest Walmart”.
Some owners carry quite a few items of value, including tools and replacements, that would be very inconvenient, difficult, or expensive to replace, particularly if/when an item was needed in a hurry; taking steps to prevent easy rip-offs is a smart move, IMO.
YMMV, as always.

JOR, our compartments have the original locks and an added thumb lock. I almost never lock the compartments except the battery box and the tool compartment. I'd rather they take what's inside verses tearing things to pieces. Just my thoughts.

"I think I'll replace the compartment locks with latches that don't lock"
I've changed out my compartment locks with Combi-Cams. No extra key to carry. Change the combination to any 3 or four digit number(depending on which version you install) of your choice. If you want to leave them unlocked just leave the correct number dialed in all of the time, then it will just be like a thumb lock. Then you'll have to option to lock them some time down the road if you want.
I have the three digit Combi-Cams installed on all of the lockable outside storage cabinets, along with backer plates, thumb pulls, and covers.

Intriguing. May I ask you to post photos and make-model. Thanks.

Jon, so did you drill another hole? How about a photo. Thanks.

Michelle,
Did my two lock posts (entry door and compartment latches) get combined? I was looking for replies on my compartment door post and found them here on this entry door post. Thanks.

Checking the moderation log, I see nothing to indicate the combining of these topics, not sure why this happened.
Glad you found what you were looking for.

(And a note from RonB, I'm back with my home computer, (I only had my phone while in Texas). I didn't edit it either)

JOR this is a photo I have, if you need closer view, I'll swing by tomorrow and get some. I didn't add them, they were installed when I bought the coach.

I enlarged it and can see there are two latches but if it's not too much trouble, I would like to see close-ups. Thanks.

JOR here are a couple close ups.

JOR here are some photos. I believe I changed out 6 of these on my 2003 T/K. Sizes I used were 1- 5/8", 5-7/8", 2-1 3/8". Granted that comes to 8 not six so two of them were not used(not sure which ones). As for the backing plate I don't remember where I bought that from. I did get the information as where to buy the backing plate from posts on this Lazy Daze Owners group. The finger pull and cover were either from Amazon.com or combi-cam.com.

John and Jon,
Thanks for the posts and photos. I've decided to go with the combi-cams setup. I ordered one to check it out. I'm also getting the thumb pulls and backing plates. I'll have the option of locked or unlocked compartments. Best of both!

Love the idea of the combi cams as I generally leave a few bays unlocked while camping, now I can leave them secured but not locked until I leave.
I see what John bought, anyone happen know know what length I’ll need for all locks on a TK?

The length of the locks varies, the best way is to measure each existing lock.
Print this chart and use it to determine the needed lengths.

Make sure to add the backing plates JOHNF mentioned, they help prevent the doors from collapsing or caving in.

ILH has been a good supplier of locks, I like the ability to custom size each lock.

People want to replace the door lock for a feeling of security I suppose. But they ignore the easy-to-open cab doors.

I have no illusions of an electronic lock providing more security, a RV is pretty trivial for a determined person to break into, as is any vehicle.
I would do the upgrade to have remote unlock and lock ability without a key.
Hi Don; My only interest is to have a functioning door lock. The Bargeman design is getting older, with no apparent source of parts. Might as well go for the keyless feature. The Lock fitment guide referenced above, dumps me out with a comment that 'We don't have a lock that fits your door'. So cut and fit adaptor plates will have to do.
The cab doors on a '99 likely can be opened easily with a Slim Jim. My cats walk on the switches anyway. The doors can have a ratcheting strap between handles to improve security. Hopefully I won't have anyone trying to 'save my cats from the heat' breaking in. RonB
