It's got nearly 8,000 miles on it.
This trip it seems to be pulling our Honda CRV better and overall it seems to have more power.
This happened around the 7,000 mile mark it seems.
Are the pistons and rings seated better now?
Am I imagining this?
The engines of our youth required long break-in periods
Modern engines break in very quickly, the result of modern manufacturing, machining, and materials..
The piston rings and cylinders are mated within a few miles.
The best way to determine if your engine is running more efficiently (more power) is to compare the MPG, when new, to your present gas mileage. Has it noticeably improved?

Got our best mpg after our 2003 mid bath reached about 60,000 miles. The V-10 is an awesome engine.
