Title: Spare Tire stored under rear covere.
Post by: Hargreaves1 on August 18, 2022, 01:50:33 pm
I have a 2004 rear bath (spare tire under cover), and also a 2006 mid bath (spare tire stored in a compartment). My question is does anyone know why LAZY DAZE stopped placing them under the rear cover? Thought about having someone with professional skills putting bolts thru the interior of the 2006, so that I can place spare under the rear cover. Sure would free up some usable space.

Wrote to Todd Miller from Lazy Daze also about my question. He just answered it. They moved everything back 3 inches to give the driver more leg room, and in doing that they lost the space on the back wall. So, spare was stored in the passengers side compartment.

As I understand it, somewhere back around 2000, to give the driver a bit more reclining space, the entire interior plan was moved rearward about 4 inches.  This removed space needed to fit the spare under the rear cover.  The rear cover was kept to maintain the standard LD appearance.

As Art said, my '99 TK, like the older mid baths,  has the tire stored in the 'bustle'. Only half of the tire is there, the rest is inside the back wall. To store it on the current MB it would stick out about 9 inches. Way past the bumper. As it is, the tire cover on my TK sticks out about 1 1/4" past the bumper.  RonB
