Title: SMOG Check in the Bay Area
Post by: Dave Katleman on March 25, 2022, 10:49:45 am
Looking for places to SMOG a TK in the Bay Area, hopefully this coming Monday.

Joan had mentioned Accurate Smog in Campbell five years ago, which will do in a pinch, are there others that do RVs?

I’m assuming California is going to require it before I go to the DMV to transfer the out of state title.

Dave, Family Smog (aka Accurate Smog Check) is still my choice, but it is in Campbell, and may be a bit far for you.

I’m assuming California is going to require it before I go to the DMV to transfer the out-of-state title.

The DMV will require a smog certificate.
Call the smog station before going to make sure they can accommodate a 24' RV.
The check is relatively quick for late models vehicles, thankfully the state has never required a dynamometer test for RVs.

Hi Larry, I asked about the Dyno test at a smog check station here once. They said that the dyno set up couldn't take the weight of the driven axle.   I find many places will do the TK, but at the entrance to the bay. The bays usually are too low to take the motorhome into.  Their test hoses and cables will extend far enough to do the testing of the motorhome. Congratulations Dave!   Ron and Trudy.

Thanks Joan!

Campbell is a bit far, but I have friends to visit down there anyway, and I used to live in Campbell, so I know the area very well.

Dave, you might want to download the $15 coupon; it's not much, but a little bit off the regular smog fee for a motor home of $125.

Dave, We used these guys in Santa Clara. They are fast, no appointment needed.

Not sure where you are located exactly but I have taken my LD and other vehicles to Golden State Smog Center on Old County Road in Belmont for years and highly recommend them. I think there is a coupon on Yelp as well. Great and friendly service by a one man shop-just call for an appointment.

Belmont is much closer to San Mateo, will go there if I end up not going down to Campbell on Monday.

Thanks!
