Title: Cab Dome Lights
Post by: Mindispower on October 15, 2021, 01:54:40 pm
Cab dome lights stopped working. My knowledge and experience are limited but I am inclined to do my own work. 1990 22MB. I consulted my shop manual but could not seem  to find a suitable resolution. Not knowing what circuit these fall under, I checked all fuses and all are good. Lamps are also good. What to do? What have I missed? What have I failed to check? TIA.

You need a service manual for your year and Model. I have no clue what a 1990 is like but later models have two fuse blocks, one under the dash and one under the hood. I assume you have checked the bulbs for continuity. Beyond that you need a schematic to find the appropriate fuse and relay.

An online search for 1990 Ford  service manual will fix you right up.

Oh, it is a Chevy. Search for that.

Does the headlight switch rotate? Seems to me in our '83 the headlight switch was a dimmer for the cab light...

Steve has that. My rotating dimmer for dash lights (Ford) has worn out spots in the nichrome that the carbon block misses. When that happens all of the dash lights and cabin lights don't work. The new part is just part of the switch and wasn't that expensive. (Rock Auto). Your GM chassis may be similar. I've had the part for awhile. I'll get it in soon.  RonB

Steve

It does work for the entire dash-just not the dome light.

Note that since the dome light is NOT a Chevy item, part of the wiring was done by LD, and they typically add a separate in-line fuse somewhere by the firewall, near the radio fuse.
