Title: Cigarette lighter
Post by: Mindispower on August 16, 2021, 01:27:49 pm
I have been unable to find the exact assembly. (See pics). I have found similar, but not the same. Here is what I am thinking.
1. Modify to accept the similar.
2. The center prtrusion of the lighter element is worn to the point of not making contact and thus not working. So I can...
a) use a small screw to make contact.
b) use a 'blob' of solder to make contact.
Or what say you?

Maybe a trip to a junk yard and find a 90's vintage chevy and grab the whole assembly and swap it out.

Screw seems a better idea if there isn't anything to damage behind it.  Solder might melt and then solder the element in the receptacle.

Called around locally, to no avail.

Are you using it to actually light something?  I'd go with an entirely new unit if you are.  My newer vehicles may have lighters, but have never been used. I don't even know if they work.  Power point uses continue as a source for power for my TPMS, TV inverter, phone chargers and GPS, etc.
Pretty amusing really for us old timers that of hundreds of power point sockets available, only two or three could take the heat of a real lighter!   Amazon.com: DC 12V Car Auto Cigarette Lighter Replacement Plug & Socket... You always have a choice.

Purchase a couple of Bic lighters!  Easy, cheap, and portable!

Cheers!
