Title: AC needed at the living area/ sleeping area when driving at hot area
Post by: WendyWei on July 25, 2021, 01:37:39 am
My Lazy Daze is 2016 Mid bath. Can I turn on the AC of ceiling to keep the back of unit cool  when I am driving the rig? Th front AC in the cab works fine if only two of us, but we have more than 2 people in the rig, how can we keep it cool at the back? Specially in some of very hot area.  Turn on the roof AC means to turn on generator.

If you want to use the rooftop A/C while driving, running the generator is the only option.
In very hot weather, we have occasionally done this to pre-cool the coach.
Expect to burn about 1/2-gallon of fuel an hour.

Yes; I was coming back from Texas through Arizona, 119 degrees outside, and ran the generator many hours with inside roof air and dash air both to keep the inside down below 90 degrees.  At least it was a dry heat!   RonB

A total noob question here: is it both legal and/or safe to run the generator while driving down the road?
(wanted to say, “Asking for a Friend,” but I’m just going to own this one.)

Yes, RV generators are “continuous duty” engines. They’re designed to be run while you’re driving. It’s perfectly safe and here in the southern half of the US, we run them all day and sometimes all night too when traveling. Check and change your oil and air filter on factory recommended schedule and run it a LOT and it will be happy and reliable.
