Title: Smelly water heater
Post by: pdl2win on June 22, 2021, 02:09:01 am
We’re on the road away from home….and shame on me didn’t test the hot water before leaving…went to take a shower and man does it have that rotten egg smell.  Any fixes while boondocking?

Thanks,

Bill

Turn the water pump off and drain the water heater by pulling the plug. Drain and refill, then run until it doesn’t smell any more.
Ideally dumpimg all the water and refilling would be best.

It might also help to rinse it out if you have one of those tank rinsers.

Another lesson in my continuing education…..a super easy fix (thanks Larry!!)….my only challenge was not having a 15/16” socket…..first tried channel lock pliers but those were challenging so switched to regular pliers and those got the job done…..immediately ordered a socket too!!!!   Granddaughter (10 years old) got a kick out of how much water came rushing out once I opened the pressure relief valve!!!

Bill, I added a wobbler extension to my kit. Any extension is a bit of a help and the wobble extension allows a better angle on the plug.  I got mine from Snap On’s Amazon page some years ago.
