So how does one keep the pets from unlocking the doors when they are on their own?
Hi:
Our two wirehaired fox terriers were trained from the get go not to open doors or anything else.

Thanks, Chris. I was hoping to see Ted’s photo (since I am more visual) but his link is dead.
I recalled that Ted went by "WXTOAD". Google took me to the site and down in the Lazy Daze/Odds and ends was this:

Thank you, Joel!
Previous owner did this.

Ah, but at least Ted is not dead! :D
How are you folks doing these days? I sure miss our LD days.

That's great to hear, Ted! ;)
After much trial and error, and some laughable prototypes, I think I finally came up with an acceptable solution to keep the cats from accidentally opening the cab doors. Simple but effective, and only requiring a few bucks and a visit to the local garden department, and some stick-on Velcro.
May I suggest either Amazon.com : SUNFURA Lightweight Dog Boots, Breathable Mesh Dog Shoes with... (http://www.amazon.com/SUNFURA-Lightweight-Breathable-Adjustable-Reflective/dp/B08T5R1BKL/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1CAAYMW7HOZH9&dchild=1&keywords=dog+booties+for+medium+dogs&qid=1621521405&sprefix=dog+boot%2Caps%2C275&sr=8-6) or velco on paws.
The boots will slow em down. The velco well keep them were you put them.
