Warmed up enough yesterday to load run the generation. Usual procedure is to run the A/C and a 1Kw Costco Radiant heater.
Hard to run the A/C when the interior is below 65 so 85 fit nicely
A/C threw an E4 error code interleaved with the temp setting of 68.
First google found:
error code definition: E4 Open circuit or out of range Outdoor Temperature Sensor.
Progressive EMS code E0 (normal), did not throw 'open ground' message.
Second google found:
An E4 error code indicates a non-repairable, non-serviceable refrigerant leak (confirmed per Dometic's technical support line). This unit cannot be serviced (recharged) by your dealer; the entire unit rooftop AC unit must be removed and replaced.
This was a bit disconcerting unless Dometic is having enough trouble finding technicians that their main response is 'you need a new unit'.
Given that the IR thermometer found a low of 32 deg in the A/C interior and it continued that way for over an hour, I thought google #2 to be the lesser credible explanation.
I thought this morning to run in on shore power to see what happens. Voila ! No Error!
For validation, I ran it on generator . Voila! No Error.
The shroud is at ground level waiting for the paint to dry. Visual inspection of the unit found nothing obvious beyond a minor disagreement about the location desirability for a paper wasp nest.
Reran on generator w/ AC & Heater Display: E0; 144-119 V; 22-23 A; 60H. AC not throwing error code.
Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions?
