Last week the converter was stolen off my 2000 RB while in storage. We are trying to locate a replacement since they no longer make that particular converter. Been searching the internet all day it must be California compliant....any ideas?

The Converter thieves hit us as well. Went to give the LD it's monthly exercise and got a LOUD roar when the engine started. Sure enough, the convertor was gone. This is from a gated storage yard with cameras!
Now the fun begins, trying to get a replacement.

After seeing so many reports of stolen cats, I went and ordered a Cat Strap. Haven’t received it yet.
Let us know how the installation goes and take some pictures when finished. Hopefully it will help deter a theft.
I believe We found on for $1100. that is a weld on. I found that the older converters contain palladium, rhodium , platinum and some a little gold! The older models get more money because of the contents. So today I will be talking, again, to my mechanic and the insurance. If you gave comprehensive they will pay I do have comp so it will be $500. The other problem they messed fuel line and some wiring. It would not start but would turn over the tow driver saw the converter was gone. George and Joann at least yours started so hopefully there was no other damage. Autohance carries the older converters Magnaflow they are in NY. Sigh

I just got off the phone with the owner of the CatStrap company. As I’ve mentioned previously, I installed two catstraps on my Toyota Sequoia and I’m very satisfied with the product. Surprisingly the e450 only has one cat. Hurray for that!
Today I ordered the dual cat strap assembly which includes the physical cat strap and a separate motion detector unit.
My catstrap on the Sequoia is still operational after all these years. Will someone attempt to remove my LD’s cat? Who knows?
Cheap insurance or cautious optimism? Anyone’s guess. 🧐

So to follow up on our converter theft. I reported it to the local police, but don't expect much.
My mechanic says that here in NH, any vehicle over 20 old does not need to meet emissions, so he offered to just put in a piece of exhaust pipe and be done with it. Cost about $100.
He was unsure if not having a cat would cause engine problems because of a lack of "back pressure". A generic cat installed would be about $400. But then I risk another theft.
Looking for thoughts and suggestions.

My mechanic said they sill need to weld the new one so chances ate it cannot be stolen again. Also looking to the future if you sell most likely it will need to be smogged. If you have comprehensive, I do, insurance the cost is only the deductible in my case $250.. Once it is cut out think about it.

Not putting the catalytic converter back will reduce the back pressure which may slightly help the engine performance. However, it will affect your E450 engine control, in terms of air/fuel ratio. This is especially true for the late model Ford E450. Another problem will be the Powertrain Control Module, PCM, thinks the catalyst is dead and keep turning on the "check engine" warning light and OBD error code P0420. This can be very bothersome. It is better to replace with a new catalytic converter instead of a straight pipe.
