Shopping for a Lazy Daze?
The Great Lakes Lazy Daze Caravan Club (GLLD) is finalizing plans for its "reorganization" rally the weekend of May 14-17 in Shipshewana, Indiana. Detailed information on the rally will be posted on this web site in the Forum dedicated to the GLLD group.
HOWEVER, this post is a general notice to those considering a Lazy Daze who might want to take advantage of this rally to tour several different models of different ages. Our location is very convenient, less than half an hour south of I 80/90.
OPEN HOUSE TIME/DATE: 10am-Noon on Saturday, May 16.
LOCATION: Shipshewana Campground South https://shipshewanacampground.com/ where, of course, you can book a site if you are presently driving SOB.
If you are traveling by car, there is a motel right next to the Campground (run by the same people) where you could book an overnight stay and spend more time with us. We'd be happy to have you! Website for that hotel is Der Ruhe Blatz Motel (http://www.therestplace.com/)

I wondered about that, too. I think Blatz is higher German - maybe used because of the Amish - Mennonite influence in N. Indiana. Also, remember "Blatz, Milwaukee's Finest Beer". My Hoosier roots are showing. Where is Klaus when we need him?

“Blatz” is not higher German (Hochdeutsch) - it is not a German word at all. I’m sure that Blatz comes from Platz - and that is as Hochdeutsch (which is basically “German with no accent or dialect”) as it gets. The cleanest (if not only) Hochdeutsch is being spoken in the area of Hannover in Lower Saxony. Coming from Hamburg I believed for decades that my German would be a clean Hochdeutsch but eventually learned that the German that is spoken in Hamburg is heavily accented.

Who knew the motel name would generate so much conversation! The Shipshewana Campground South and Der Ruhe Blatz (The Resting Place) are both at least operated by, and possibly owned outright by an Indian couple. My primary contact's name is Daxa. I notice that the website address now shows "The Resting Place" so I am just speculating that when this motel was originally built by 16 Amish families, the German name made sense, and perhaps now it is transitioning to English... just guessing here.

My wife's people hail from the Bremen/Hamburg area and their dialect is heavily influenced by the 'Dutch' speaking folks to their east. It's referred to as Plotdeutsch.
LDO--lifelong learning across the board...mechanical, electrical, plumbing, travel, nautical, gustatory, literary, historical, meteorological, geographical, computers/electronics, and now linguistics...plus coffee :D (& yes, I know I mixed nouns & adjectives, so screwed up the parallel construction).

Hey, thanks for that link Andy... I'd never gotten into it that far! And once again I dropped a 'T' like I'm want to do, even in English.
What I do know is that when my northern German relatives slipped into their wooden shoes and headed out to tend the cows and pigs they were speaking a dialect that did not match the one I heard every day down in the Frankfurt area. :o ::)
